I was flying down the lake at WOT...came off plane and I hear the oil injection alarm going off and engine running rough....I pull the cowl and there is oil in the resevoir.... I look at the oil hose going into the fuel pump....no oil and making sucking noises... .....then I remembered I had been running double oil just by chance as I had put 50 to 1 in the tank last week when trouble shooting another issue :D

Anyway, that was enough of a scare for me to order the oil injection removal kit from RickRacers today!!! Just as an aside I checked compression ...120 even across the board and I believe it was running rough because it was sucking air instead of oil into the fuel pump. I am down until the kit comes in...but that is better than what would have been if I didn't have the double oil. I won't be using Oil Injection ever again!!!;)

I'm thinking of taking it off of my XR6 in the spring since the warranty will be up. Only thing is, the motor idles so rich that I'm afraid if it idles on 50:1 it will really get carboned up. I took the plugs out the other day and one had a HUGE chunk of carbon on it, and this is with the injection hooked up. The plugs are also always soaked if I take them out after idling, so I know it runs really rich at idle. 150:1 or whatever the idle mixture is probably is better for it with it running that rich. The excess carbon might have been from doing a lot of idling with some guests in the boat a couple weeks ago. Tough call, a lot of people don't trust it but then you hear the stories of it being just fine.

I's not a matter of "IF it will quit, it's a matter of when". Just too many variables in the equation. It could be a hose that cracked, the nylon/plastic gear on the crank, the pump shaft or the pump itself. Not to say anything is bullet proof, but in the long run the oil injection has not proven to be very reliable.
