I DON'T HAVE A GO-FAST BOAT... I HAVE A 21 FT FLATS BOAT W/ A YAMAHA 4 STROKE 150 ON IT. IT HAS THE FACTORY PROP ON IT NOW AND IT LOOKS LIKE SWISS CHEESE. IM LOOKING FOR GOOD HOLE SHOT AND A GOOD BITING PROP(ZERO CAVITATION). ALSO, A FASTER CRUISING SPEED- WHEN IM FISHING THE FLATS I'LL RUN 110 MILES A DAY. I WORK AT MOREHEAD MARINE AND ONE OF OUR MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT THE TROPHY 13 3/4 X 17 MIGHT BE A GOOD ONE. YOUR THOUGHTS?

The trophy is a good fishing prop --- carries a load well and is stable in rough water. Try the 17" pitch but you may have to go up to a 19" pitch depending on load.

...can be found at www.thefishing-boatingforum.com. Your comment on wanting the prop to hook up well indicates that you need something like a Merc Tempest, or the equivalent Yammie prop- with a large diameter hub and a fairly large diameter- like 14.5 to 15 inches. The Trophy Plus is a good 4 blade prop but has a small hub which may vent more than you want when running a flats rig. Some prop makers make special flats props which you may like also, Turbo being one brand that comes to mind.

Go to www.mercurymarine.com and click on propellers, then click on "prop selector". Put in the data on your rig, being as accurate as you can- the selector does Yamaha engines and Flats Boats. I'm a big fan of the Tempest, but they have about 6 other models that will all come up. You can click on each to read about them. I would suggest getting the pitch for the prop you now have, and if your rpm is ok, then stick with a similar pitch. In most cases, I've found the selector pitches a bit on the high side, possibly to keep you from over-revving. For my rig they suggest 23 pitch, but the rig likes 21 pitch a lot better.

Flatsboat, Marcus at powertech spents many hours everyweek setting up flats boats for Hewes Boats. Get it touch with him . You can call power tec / or E mail . He also spends a lot of time on the Hewes Maverick forum in the prop/motor section. He goes by the name Funky Monkey on that forum. Tell him Joe R from Valrico ,Fl told you to call he may be able to tell you what you need.
