as we have seen on here a few times, there have been issues regaurding Fredyspens(sean bulka), I am not saying It is entirly his fault as I didnt have him personally open up the item I bought from him and work on it in any way, and it was my fault for only doing a operations and presure test on the gearcase after i purchased it from him... I should have looked a bit deaper, well 9 trips out and a total of 15 hours of run time after initial purchase and in the 7 of the 9 trips there was problems... vibration, overheat due to failed impeller (4 of 7 trips) hard shifting ect... well come to find out upon autopsy of the now grenaded case, the driveshaft was a non preload shaft (or atleast it appeared to be because of no nipple) but the case itself was a preload style case.. needless to say i am out the case, and if anything is salvageable ill be amaized... maybe the brand new waterpump... but that is about it.... the case was a ok price at the time but with the failure so close in hrs to the purchase im now going to be in it as much as a brand new case at retail price... (what i was trying to avoid in the first place...) just beware and heed the advise of others that have had issues with sellers in the past.... they are posting the information to warn others of something wrong, i didnt listen, got burned, and just hope nobody else does either.. Sean was fair and as prompt as he could with me and it wasnt his fault for mechanical pieces failing or that there was a shipping delay due to a lable falling off... but he said it was in good condition, i trusted him, and his pictures and it wasnt quite as discribed... next time i will be sure to spend the time to fully go through anything i buy from anyone here... especially if it doesnt arrive quite as originally discribed..

I have been on the reciving end of used parts, both powerhead and lower unit. Business was not conducted on this site. But is a bitch, used is used.

And in the world of fast stuff, cutting corners will cut your wallet everytime.

Hate it, sorry it happened.

If it was not what you were told, then I see room for questions!

fellas I feel for ya I have seen alot of this kind of stuff posted , (not as much lately as in the past ) but i have to wonder if some one posts "boat for sale very nice " is'nt that an opinion ? I have driven miles and miles to buy a boss 302 or a bbc 427 and found 289s and 402s some times they don't know any better ! I have posted several parts and such on scream and fly ,I still have it all . I try to insist any one interested come look and touch . i don't need the money as much as i need the space . but i bet the one time some one sends a check for some thing they have not seen i will have to buy it back (broken of coarse )

Wow, what was $300.00 to reseal on a new gearcase?
Wouldn't it be under warranty and why would it be the selling dealers fault if a new gearcase did leak oil?

I bought a used engine from a local dealer, took it out, and less then 60 seconds of full throttle, the lower grenaded.

Went down there, talked to them, and they replaced it. Sometimes it pays to buy local.

Its tough to buy something far away, like a boat, motor, prop etc. Its tough even in pictures to really tell what a prop is like.

Sorry 150, I know how frustrating broken parts are. I have replaced an engine, a lower, and a troller this year. Need to replace the boat now.

Frank,

I don't think Bob was trying to be sarcastic. But if this was a new gearcase and it leaked, could you not have presented your Bill of Sale to the repairing dealer and had Mercury honour the warranty? As far as the leak not being the selling dealers fault, I think he means they didn't sabotage it, it was defective from Mercury, if you don't take it back to them how can they help you? Maybe you did?
