Yamaha plans to introduce new products and upgrades on a continuous basis instead of only at the traditional “model year change-over.” Going forward, Yamaha will be able to introduce new products (and upgrades) throughout the year, which means Yamaha will be better able to meet consumer needs in a fast changing market.
There are other benefits to this approach. Dealers and boat builders are now better able to carry adequate inventory throughout the year because they won’t have to slim down inventory in advance of a new “model year.” For customers, the result is a much better chance your dealer will have what you want, when you want it.
How will I know I am getting the latest Yamaha outboard when I go to the dealer?
In the past, Yamaha model designations remained the same in many cases, even though the products had evolved significantly over the course of time. For example, some outboards switched from carburetors to electronic fuel injection – a significant technological improvement – without having a change in the model name.
Going forward, Yamaha intends to change the model designation when making substantial changes. When Yamaha redesigned the V150TLR, switching from carburetion to electronic fuel injection, it became the VX150TLR. A more recent example is the new F15C, which replaces the former F15. The use of these new outboard designations will allow you to determine if you have the latest technology outboard. This approach will also help you to match models if you are replacing multiple outboards.
Any Yamaha outboard model, F150TLR, for example, is identical in specification to any other outboard sharing the same designation. In other words, an F150TLR is an F150TLR, whether manufactured in 04/2005 or 05/2006.
If you have a question about specific current model designations, please see this current model list (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/07_curr_models_web.pdf).
