Jay Smith Racing Engines (http://www.jaysmithracing.com) is now offering single-side encapsulated, lightweight wristpins for Mercury 2.4 and 2.5 liter engines, which also complement the new forged racing pistons that are currently available from JSRE.

These wristpins are made from the same material top fuel and funny car wristpins are made from. They are heat treated to a Rockwell scale hardness of 60-62 and then given a final cryogenic treatment. The wristpins are centerless ground and have a .100" wall thickness. These wristpins are a one-piece design, which means that the end cap is not pressed into place, but rather the result of the machining process.

This type of pin was used by Mercury in early Mod-VP Racing and in the first 2.5 high performance engines that were introduced. By installing the encapsulated end UP the vapor cannot enter the bottom open end of the wristpin thus "stuffing" the block - decreasing volume and increasing the pressure in the crankcase. This higher crankcase compression creates higher pressure, and consequently picks up air speed, charge rate and velocity.

Our new single-side encapsulated wristpins weigh 80 grams, while the stock pins on pistons we sell weigh 95 Grams. The JSRE pins are 15 Grams lighter plus you get the 'stuffing' ability of the one-piece design being closed on one end.

Now available from:
Chuck Goodman @ Hydrodynamics 1 318 965 0201 CST
Jay Smith @ JSRE 1 281 576 5088 CST

There are very few raw materials with the incredible strength required by wrist pins in a blown-fuel, drag race motor. Pins are made of VascoMax C-300, an exotic, very expensive, nickel-cobalt-titanium steel “super-alloy” with very high ultimate tensile strength (294,000 psi) and an extreme fatigue endurance limit (one billion cycles at 125,000 psi). Now these pins sell for over 200.00 each. Also the use a inside tapper design to add durability and save weight at the same time.

I just got to know????? You have these wrist pins for Mercury Outboards?

Venola Pistons Co. told us thier pins were from 9310 for the Fuel application and thats what these are from BUT I knew I should have checked with you Al. What do they know? And I'm sure they were shooting me a line of crap....All I CAN say is that these are MUCH better material than what a Mercury pin is made from and I advertised these as what I was told from them as I was going to get Venola to do the pins for us and that what they said.....

9310 is still used in NASCAR, and very very durable. I just had to gig ya!!!!
HA HA!

Also 9310 is used in JE, Ross and Venolia pistons in non blown applications.
Pro stock ( I feel is the most damaging natural assperated engine) I feel the may still use them, but they are probley using the high dollar stuff now looking for every inch of HP.
And I'm shure the top (Very top) NASCAR teams are using the high dollar ones for the number one stars were money is no object!

Venolia has become the weak link in the last few years with drag, they are after the NASCAR business as is Wisco and others.

And teams that are using those high dollar pins are also using those high dollar MAHLE pistons.

Al

Got ya heart rate up???

HA HA!!!

You ALWAYS seem to be a wealth of knowlegde on every subject on the planet BUT you STILL haven't told me a concrete answer as to whats wrong with my Trailblazer drive train issue that I asked you to reasearch over 6 months ago and THATS what you do for a living isn't it a GM drive train guru  ...

No. At least to me, Jay said that you will get 20 mph if you get the wrist pins and a set of Eric Simon´s billet injector hold-downs. He has made no claims about the wrist pins alone. :D :D

Humm, well I'm not as good as you JAZAROO!
I can't tell you whats wrong with your truck over the telephone.
You said "when I stop it feels like I'm running over pencils"
That was a lot to go one. GM has no campains on your truck with concerns with the ABS or brake system at all.
And your big 20 plus wheels have nothing to do with it?
GM does not offer "20" for the Trail Blazers and has warning about it.

And with all your wealth and knowlage with all these great inventions of yours, Mercury I'm sure they could use you!
