Champion QL77CC are recommended by Mercury. The radio noise between the ECU and Ignition system is not a factor when using this plug, however you do notice short term life during periods of idling and high oil ratios, especially when using dirty oils: i.e. Merc P.B. & Klotz 50. I've tried NGK BPZ8H-N-10 and did not see anything execpt inconsistant coloration of the inner ceramics. Use QL77CC , indexing will help.

I've had good luck with the NGK BR8HS gapped at .035" in our 280's that we build..........I've never ran a Champion plug in anything that an NGK didn't perform better and longer...

my opinion,

Your local parts store, NAPA, O'Reilly have the best price on NGK plugs.

And E-bay thier are some wholesalers who have great prices, but check frt.

I've called Merc Hi-Performance on this issue before I replaced my plugs at the beginning of the year. They no longer recommend the QL77C's; Mercury now recommends the BPZ8H-N-10. I never fouled a single plug in 40 hours on a triple 280 set-up using the Mercury Performance Blend, the QL77's, and 10 hours of the 40 at idle (per the ECU). So far I have not fouled any NGK's in the last 10.

The best price I found was on Sparkplugs.com. (SunCity, Ca.)

Why don't you ask the guy who sold you the motor- he might know.

If you do go with NGK BR8HS, they are $1.79 at Advance Auto.

between br8hs-10 and br8hs is the "-10"s are gapped at .040". I have found that here, localy, the "-10's" are more readily avalible. other than that...same plug. I allways gap them with the little silver dollar gauge thats on my key ring, regardless.
