In general with the checkmates you need bow lift (they are bow heavy), and a cleavor will not do that. You would need to stay with a round ear prop. Setback would be a good idea if your transom is solid and you don't have much, that would reduce the bow lift you need a little. More or less you raise the motor until you can't get enough lift to get your bow high enough....to get the right angle of attack you need for max speed. Then go back down a hair.
See you raised the motor (lost some lift) and you put a stern lifting prop on (lost a lot more bow lift) and thats why it went slower undoubtedly with the bow too low. Then you are dragging a lot of hull in the water and making a rooster. Also move all your weight to the back center if you can like battery/gas/equipment and make the bow empty. Once you get it working with a good prop then have the prop thinned and sharpened if not. There are a lot of checkmate people on here, they should see this. Also you can search for checkmate posts here, there are good ones that talk about specific props and how they work, some are a couple years back.
Also list your motor, HP/mods, setback, cone/LWP, size/style of hull, weight if you know, speeds it runs now gps on what props you have tried, etc so people can give you specific info on your setup. Check the pad/bottom (does it have a pad? how wide?) for straightness stern to bow.
