Hey, My Girlfriend and myself are going to be in florida for just over a week from the 10th, staying 4 nights in Orlando and then down to S. Beach for another 4 nights. Just wondering where we/I:D could go to check out some boats in either area. Would like to check out any possible future boats, (permission depending:rolleyes: ) STV, Allison, Skater, etc. would be nice to get to see some of these boats in the flesh, any dealers, boatyards, marinas, etc. mainly around the Miami area as all our/my time in Orlando is prety much spoken for, and I don't want to drag her off to some "boat place", it's her holliday to and she's cool with the boat the rest of the year.
Also anywhere in Miami that we could see some hot boats on the water, that we might just happen to stumble accross some day:rolleyes: :D ;)
Thanks, Alan:)
Also if anyone is in the area, would love to say hello:)

Alan check out Diamond Marine in Ft.Laurdale. They have some some great stuff! There are several guys that live down there but, I'm not reel sure where everybody runs. As far as Orlando area...Wildman is not to far east from there, he has the very trick Libirators and Checkmates. If you get board with the house of mouse, the "Alligator Chain" guys are not to far east of there in St.Cloud. Or you can go in search of the ellusive M.Mullins of Miarage Boats:eek: He's in Winter Haven--S/W of Orlando. BTW, Everybody that lives in Florida doesn't drive like those morons in Orlando!! Enjoy Florida! Mike T.

Mike, I'll have a look and see where/how far those places are, were not driving when we get over, the less stress the better:D
I can see the two of us in a LHD car in god knows how many degrees heat, on roads we don't know in strange cities and all driving on the wrong side of the road:eek: We might be looking for separate hotel rooms

All of the areas--except for Diamond Marine--would be a relief to travel to because you are OUT of Orlando! They truly drive like they have their heads up their A$$ in that place!

So in other words if the folks in Orlando see a guy driving down the wrong side of the road wiping sweat from his forehead and yelling out the window "where did you people learn to drive" , it will be Dublin's own Alan Power.
Have a good trip!!!!

Do you know any Gilmores there? My Great Great Grandfather moved from Ireland to New York.I think he died there and My Great Grandfather moved down here to Cowford which is now Jacksonville in 1885.In 86 he was assigned a parcel of land (1800 acres)by land grant by the King of Spain which he called Gilmore after his father which is on Mill Cove, about 10 miles inland from the Ocean.I have alot of history here and storys heard over my younger years but with the old folks gone theres nobody left to ask.I'd like to go there one day.;)

I've only met one other Gilmore that comes to mind, an old schoolfrinds grandmother, I know she was from Galway.
It's amazing how many people fled Ireland to the states during the famine, which I presume is what your ancestors were doing, it's about the right era.
You should come over you would like it I'm sure. It's my first time in the US and I've always wanted to go for as long as I can remeber.

I don't know when that was.My Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War for the north:rolleyes:and died in 1923,I think my GG Grandfather died up north in the 1860's,Don't know how that relates to the time your thinking.
Welcome to The United States of America and Florida,I know you'll enjoy it.;)

Pete, maybe LOL. I would love to see the rest of the country but it's so BIG, maybe someday though. I'm sure I'll be back though, with a bit more planning maybe we could take in an event too, that would be awsome!
Racemore, the height of the famine was 1845 - 1850 maybe a little late for your GG grandfathers journey but maybe.
CDave, I don't actually drink Guinness:eek: but I'll def. be looking for a beer;)
Thanks, Alan

Alen, Sounds like a great trip, did you say you were going to South Beach?? It's OK if your into the late nite scene, things don't get cranked up until 11pm. The area you will drive thru to get there is rough, so be careful. Coconut Grove is another great area to check out. Where you really should think about going with your girl, is to Holliday Isle, Islamorada, in the keys. Especially on the weekends, there's loads of hot boats hanging out on the sand bar. Get you one of those great rum drinks! Have a good time, and be ready for some thick heat.

Dan isnt joking about the rough areas... uncanny how one side of the intercoastal its some of the most expensive real estate in the country, and the other side is, well, not so upscale. heh.

didn't even think of that!! This mornings news is not good:mad: Fiance has to fly Monday next week!
Alan, sorry for not catching this earlier but.....
#1. welcome to the US of A brother! Hope your flight was better than expected??
#2. You'll regret S.Beach! We did it a month ago just to say we did. Our friends (locals) advised us not to but I insisited!! Traffic, flat freagin SUCKED!! This was middle of day through week too!! Expensive as **** too!
$8. for a Reuban and fries!
#3. Do Diamond Marine if you can. They are the best at making O/B's run like they should!!
#4. Do the Keys, any of them!! Skip Miami and just keep going south. Beautiful drive and unbelievable scenerary!
#5. I am in Vero Beach which is 1 1/2 hrs south of Orlando (on the eastern shoreline) and about 2 hrs north of Miami.
I have a 4 seat STV that's stored a mile from the condo we're in. We are a mile from the Intra Coastal and it is full of small, uninhabited beach lined islands and pubs you can reach by boat.
You will be driving by within 5 miles on your way south.
We have an extra bedroom if you guys want to stay for a day and a night. We'll get you a boat ride. Not as much fun as the boat in your avatar, but still fun
Condo is 772-794-5172, cell is 614-202-0266
Have a blast while you're here Alan, it will change you;)
Gary
welcome to the US Alan, I hope your flight was a good one. I am on the other coast (of fla) about half way up, but if you get up this way let me know.

In Fl now :) On a computer in the loby of our hotel, couldn't bring the laptop because of the voltage dif!
The flight wasn't too bad from Dublin, we wern't delayed at all, we didn't even know what had happened, still didn't realy know the details untill we got up this morning. Flight from chicago to orlando was delayed by about 1 hr but I don't think it was connected to the scare! We also lost all liquids out of our hand luggage, deoderants, aftershave, toothpaste, etc. even a water filled keyring! But other than that it was a fine trip but just our luck that it would happen on the one and only day we were going
Gary, thanks for the super offer would love to stop by but we are actually flying down to Miami, not sure about driving on the wrong side of the road  Would defo love to see the STV though, I'm sure it's a lot more fun than repeatedly falling off the pad at 75! We are thinking about renting a car to drive up to daytona so maybe we could drive down the coast instead. We're only here tomorrow and sunday, then were down to miami on monday untill friday, or so..... :D
Thanks so much for the very kind offer of a place to stay too:cool:
So far we're having a blast, the weather isn't as hot as I thought it would be, the biggest killer is the time dif. it's now almost 7am to us! Feel kinda tired.
This computer sucks too, it's taken nearly 10 attempts to get the reply box to open, I'll find another computer somewhere tomorrow, need some sleep now!
Thanks guys, Alan

Glad to hear you made it ok. I didn't know you went to Chicago first, you didn't even wave when you flew over me:( :D If you go to Daytona, take the Greenway out of Disney, crossing Lake Jessup offers a spectacular view, then you can get back on I-4 at Sanford.
Driving south may not be a bad idea, with the airport mess, it may be just as fast(about 5 hours), and will give you a good feel for the size of Florida.

Pete, I was sound asleep by that time, we didn't get up to Daytona either:( We just ran out of time in Orlando and were kind of tired the last day there so we just chilled out and looked around the local area.
We are in Miami now and it's a weird place to say the least, it's good though!
Spent the best part of the night last night in an Irish bar, travel nearly 4 thousand miles and end up in an Irish bar:rolleyes:
We decided we would stay a few extra days too, stay for the weekend and go on monday instead of friday. Saw two boats go by the beach today (heard them actually and ran out to look) dont know what they were but they had big blocks in em:D
I'm in an internet cafe accross the road from our hotel, have internet on the TV in our room but it sux, keeps locking and booting me out etc.
So we'll be here for an extra few days, so anyone know where to see some cool boats at the weekend:D
Alan
PS, Jim I'll call you tomorrow afternoon some time sending you a PM

Hope your having a good time Alan.I don't know if there is anything left on Thunderboat Row ,All the pioneers of Offshore performance were there but you should see some if you tour around the intacoastal waterway. You might want to ride up to Lauderdale and go ot the beach.it's cool, alot of shops and sights. You like going over the causeway.Canals full of house's that have Yacht's from 50 to130' with big triple engine open fishing boats in the lift by it.Everywhere.There Hotboats everywhere.Awesome! Have a good time and be safe,

The Keys are a good day trip and there are gatherings every weekend from what I here. You could go on an innocent sight seeing trip and just happen to come across a bunch of hot boats. Plus you'd have a great time driving on the "wrong" side of the road with a bunch of wacko American drivers.
