:confused:im currently setting up a 1973 MX15 with a 1500 on a cmc manual jackplate with 5.5 inches of setback. i have no idea what height to set the engine at for overall performance. i'd also like to know how high i should set it for speed runs.

If you are runnin a 20" mid, she needs to be up 3". Speed runs maybe as high as 5 depending on water pressure. Hydraulic jackplate with a gauge would be nice so you could feel the difference at different hts. Weight n balance comes into play with that for setup as you are runnin back 5

yeah, i know i probably have too much setback. when i run it, if its too much ill take it off and buy a new one.it is a 20" mid. so the prop shaft should be 3" above the transon, or the engine height should be 3" higher than where it normally sits?

3" up off the edge of the transom if your setback is straight back and not offset. Basically like Rickracer said-even to 1" above the pad. Mine with a short mid runs about 1" above the pad and my clamp is on the transom.

so i want the prop shaft 3" above the transom? that seems really high. i guess i could bolt it on so lowest would be 2.5" below, and highest is 3" above. it has 5.5" adjustment. should work out.

Mid clamp 3" up off the transom so the propshaft runs even or 1" above the bottom of the boat pad make sure you are still gettin water to the lower, but with the setback, I think you will be fine. I have been told I can run my shortie 3" above the transom and still get water fine, but I don't wanna get it thirsty :D

alright, i was a lil confused there for a second. i know about the water pickup. ill be installing a water pressure gauge. but i wont be getting a low water pickup just yet. i'd like to run the boat for a year ot two before i do more work to it.. 5.5" setback will put the prop in "cleaner" water, and reduce prop slip, correct? how does ur mx ride trimmed out? just wondering as to what im looking forward to.

4" of the rear of the boat is in the water at full trim and speed. That is with the 135 on it. I will have to see if it is the same with a 150 on it
