View Full Version : What do you all think about this type of seat in a STV Euro?

I've been looking for a slightly higher seat for my Euro. One reason is because my stock Euro seatbottom cushions are just a hair higher then I like, and the other reason is because I would like a little bit more shoulder and head support.
I'm thinking of some Sparco or Momo carbon fiber-backed one piece racing seat(s) with color matching red covers. (for those of you that don't know which boat I have, it's VERY red)
My question is whether you guys think it would look funny with the taller seats in there. The stock seats are about 24" tall from the floor, and most of the racing seats are 32-36" with brackets. I took some measurements and it looks like they would be a pretty good fit. Any other reasons this might not be a good plan?

might give it that Skater-esk kinda look.
the quartershot t-4's have higher backed seats in them. I doubt it would look bad though since the t-4's are great looking boats and they stick up higher than the boat (as opposed to the sleeker look with the stv). Give it a shot, the worst thing that could happen is you don't like them and you return the seats and put your old ones back in.

Have you tried Allison style seats ?

If it's a car seat I'd wonder if there's enough padding to make it confortable when there's a little chop.

Well, I got the seats installed today - I like them. They are a little harder to get into then the low-back stockers, but they really hold you in place. I had to build a bracket for them, and I put a spare grab handle I had kicking around onto the side of the passenger seatmount.

DMA,
I think your idea and look is awesome ;) I alwys wanted to do the same thing...IMO a boat that is a real driver like the STV needs a real drivers seat too....personally I might angle them back some ...just because I like to be in "go cart" position when I drive....
NICE WORK:)
I have to say that when I saw post #1 I thought, "Honda Civic ricer idea".
I now stand corrected after seeing the pictures. Looks sharp.

The thing is they are actually pretty far laid back already, The brackets physically won't let them go any further back. Any further back and it would be a real stretch to reach my PCU controller and Digitron. I really appreciate the comments - I wish they didn't stand up so tall over the level of the visor, but in reality, when I am sitting in the driver's seat the top of my head is perfectly level with the top of the seat.
Thanks guys.

Once again it looks great and yeah if the angle is good for you...leave it alone;)
ALSO those seats will be good to give some helmet support cause you know at WOT the wind pushes old "bucket head" around...:D
Have you given any thought about sanding the "Recaro" name off and put/paint "STV" logo in it's place..........................that would look awesome:D

I didn't think I'd like the high back but they look great!
As to cushioning I think you'll find them to be fine.
I put poly car race seats in my old Vector. They had NO padding other than the 1/4" sewn into the seat covers.
I thought I'd get the shist knocked out of me in the slop!
They were some of the most comortable seats I've ridden in! They fit your contour so well that you don't land just on your asss. It spreads the shock load through out your body and you don't even feel it.
I liked them so much that I put two more low backs in STV RR and haven't even had covers made for them yet. No covers, no cushions, no padding no nothing and amazingly they are fine.
Heres a link to the RCI seats I used. I think 10 olbs each. Thread inserts in bottom.
You can get various color corridinated covers for about another $45. per seat.

Wow! I like those seats a lot. I like the Recaro on the back. I think maybe I would paint or get a sticker made of "STV" in red (or the logo if they have one) and just put it under the Recaro. Kinda looks like a Momo steering wheel too. Too bad there is not a place to hide some sleek looking side mirrors on there.

Yeah, it's a Momo steering wheel, but I'd love to get rid of it and get a 13"-14" three spoke wheel that has the evenly spaced spokes because of the seastar hydraulic steering the wheel never centers.
Thats my next project is a suede covered Sparco or Momo Ponza style wheel...
I got a bazillion projects that I may or may not get too. Right now I'd just like all the Bayliners to leave the crowded lakes out here so I can take this thing out. I put Helmut's old PCU setup on it two months ago and I've not even started the engine yet. I bought a labbed 28" ET and I have never put it on.... I'm a fall/winter/spring boater.

Well, Michigan's economy is in the dumpster and plants are still closing up and moving away...along with lots of people/families. It has cut down boating for sure, but its not a very good tradeoff. Our lake has been dead for 3 years compared to what it used to be, but its not big enough to wind that thing out. On a holiday weekend there are some boats out there, just like it used to be every weekend. During the other weekends there are times when its empty and that never used to happen....even the PWCs only run for a little while instead of all day. Only the 40hp and less pontoons and row boats still run as often as they used to. But I guess in other areas everything is normal.
I was going to get out my 85hp bayliner the other day and my inlaw says "You need to go slow like we do (on his pontoon) and you would not use up much gas" I laughed, why else would I be out in a boat? :D Even in that slow little thing, but he had a pile of drywall in front of it that I didn't feel like moving. And fishing is no good there during the day unless its a weekday. I've been really busy with projects too, but with gas prices I don't feel too bad about not boating much. I try to ride my golfcart more to make up for it...when I actually have time to get to the lake.
Oh thats right about the hydraulic steering, that would drive me nuts. You have some nice goodies on the boat to try out then; you will have to let us know how it runs out when you get it wet. Thats a sweet boat! IMHO they ought to offer those seats as factory options.
