7 REEDS vs 5 reeds

Tore down a 225 today looking for a crank. Found one. Also 7 reeds rather than the 5 that were in my 88 200. What will be the advantage/disadvantage of using them in my 200 rebuild?

Is this a carb. eng? If so... you'll probably loose hole shot and gain top end!

It is a carb engine. Will the carbs be the same on both? I am at my cottage and my 200 is at home. It is on a Valero-Jim

the 7 petal reeds will usually benefit you over the mid 8000 range but under that the 5 petal set-up wins out everytime. The carbs will work off of eitherone but the 225 carbs MAY have a better mid range circuit. Get both sets and post the WH-XX numbers found on the top front flange of the carbs. Not a big difference probably but maybe a small one....

Tha 14 peddle fronts were on tha NON fingerported mota's, then tha fingerported run tha 5 peddle stuff...Tha 5 peddle front iz the only way to go, unless U are build'in an all out race mota!!

I have a 2.0, F-1 mota that wuz factory 300HP wit EFI, and 14 peddle front...I wanted to use carbs, and it wouldn't git outta it's own way, till it hit 8500 rpm...I got tired ov play'in wit diffrent carbs, jett'in and manifolds, so I swapped out the fronts, and went to a 5 peddle fish'in mota front...STOCK, mite I add...It haz glass reeds I made, and NO Xdrill'in...It will jerk a not in ya azz out tha hole, and I have a 11K tach, and it will use it all!!!...

A stock 200 carb, 5 peddle mota iz cappible ov 9000+ rpm, and a 5 peddle 2.4 "Stockie chrome bore" iz cappible ov 8000+ rpm...

In my opinion, on river mota'z velosity iz mo important than bulk flow...So I say 5 peddle iz tha ticket!!

i have to agree with t-rex. the 5 pedal is the way to go. on a stock 200 the hole shot and spin up is much better.
