I was thinking of new things to do and I thought, wouldnt my 13' Rapid Craft River Racer look cool with twin 75hp Stingers hangin off the back.

Any ideas where to start...

1. motor position: as close to center as possible?
2. Prop selection
3. Strength Transom
4. Steering? Hydralic?
5. Speeds in the 70's with twins maybe 80mph (It runs 55-60mph with thhe 75 Stinger now)

All comments welcome.

 I have been toying around with the idea of putting a 1500xs on my delta though, so I guess I'm one to talk:o I don't know how the rapidcrafts are built, but I would think at the very least you would want to add some big knees and other reinforcement so you don't end up with a big mess on your hands.

Way back when people usta' run twins on V bottoms they frequently put the motors on at an angle where the propshafts were closer at the bottom than the powerheads were at the top. This mean that the motors were mounted in a V pattern. There are some minor carb float level issues that must be addressed, but otherwise it seems to work well.

If you want to do it for cool, then that would be a cool project. I don't think you'll see overwhelming performance gains though because of the increased weight and the fact that the extra gearcase is a ton of extra drag. There's no doubt that an inline 6 Merc or V4 OMC would smoke it. I doubt that the 13 foot boat would do a very good job of floating the extra weight or getting off plane. It might be a good idea to go and sit on the engine cowl with the boat sitting still in the water and see how it floats.

Had a fella that had a 13 alyy and we put a 125BP on it..... not good. I did build a 85 for a guy with a 13 ally and we put a SSM on it. It ran good. But we also put a 1.87 on her with a small wheel and it ran good. I would build a old Merc 85 for it .... Or go for one of the newer motors..... Yammi Or Tathatsu. They are good motors that can be Modd..... Mercs are harder. Lost foam casting and no head milling.:p I Know nothing............

Hey dave, how did it float with the inline?

Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it.

I have a couple of 75 Stingers and I thought it would look cool and possibly help with chine walking at higher speeds. Im not sure if it would help or not. I could use some feedback from someone who has had twins on a V bottom boat.

With a 12x23 cleaver on the Stinger motor it is nearly impossible to get on a plane with two people in the boat. I thought that if I went with twins I could use less pitch on the prop and really improve the holeshot.

The safer bet would be for me to put my SST60 motor on the back and call it a day but that doesnt make for much of a winter project :)

I don't know how good it floated but it did hop at speed. Something was wrong.

Get in touch with bushman he is trying to do the same thing right now.you can get over the issue of to much weight in the back but puting bigger tanks up front.you will need to carry it any way just dont go low on fuel.thats how i did it on my 13 cigarette with an 80 merc.good luck if you choose to take this mission.
