View Full Version : My First Watkins Glen Track Experience (VIDEO)

Went to Watkins Glen with my buds who own East Coast Supercharging. Rode it my friend's C5 Corvette LS1 447 with many mods. It was the most intense ride ever. The Watkins Glen track doesn't leave alot of room for error. Coming into the "esses" at 125 mph with nothing but blue steel at the edge of the road, and then 155 mph on the back straight and 125 into the chikane is just nuts. I wanted to bail out at the next pitstop at first but then when the first run was over, I couldn't wait to get back on the track!

Mike, that's a great video - it REALLY makes me want to get into cars again. Maybe I should - they are a lot of fun.

By the way, when are you gonna register at gmsupercar.com? We need to get that new forum going!

Reminds me of a road trip I made to Arizona to visit my brother. I was at Bondurant messing around when Bob himself stepped into his brand new Z06 school car for the very first time and made some hot laps. No helmet, no fire suit, just out there screaming around the track by himself.

When he brought the car back, one of his guys popped open the panel in the drivers left footwell area and turned a pot down to reduce horsepower or rev limit or something. Anyway, Bob made several hot laps with the technician turning down the pot after every run until Bob felt it was correctly 'de-powered' for the school.......:D

Those Vettes handle AMAZING!!! Even with bone stock suspension.

Thanks Hot Shot. I was racing in my car from one turn to the next to get footage. I need a better tripod though, I have a cheap one with no bearings to keep it smooth. Alot of the video is with no tripod too.

Godspeed, the Knight Rider shall pass the pony car like it's standing still.

Nice Vid. Thanks for posting. The Glen is a lot of fun but the armco is very close. The black vet has to correct his line at the top of the climbing esses or he is going to get in trouble.
Here's a vid of Sebring. First 4 min are slow but it picks up when my "wabbit " ( white cup car)passes .

The black car's line looks funny in the video, but I rode in that car with him and he didn't miss a beat. He's an amazing driver, knows exactly what he's doing.

It may be the angle on the video. It just looks like he is not tracking out all the way before the back straight. Usually you will be hugging the right side as you hit the back straight and then track out to the left.
Last summer a friend of mine put his GT3 in the wall there and did $65k damage.
The camera is in my 2005 GT3 set up only for the track only. This is a pick from VIR @ Oak tree with a student. I teach for a lot of those clubs over the winter.

Here is a video ( A plucked it from the Rennlist board) of a PCA club race. @ the 2.55 mark you can see where the car is supposed to be at the end of the esses.

Nice vid!!!!

That one puts mine to shame. Nice driving. It gets ten time scarier when there are lots of other cars on the track.

I'm going to mount some cameras stationary for the the next run. We are going up the weekend of Sept. 18th.
