Merc plug adapter

Got a new boat that is set up for a Merc motor. The problem is that the Merc controls have more pins on the plug than the 1998 Optimax has. Do they make an adapter for this to eliminate the extra pins? I would think that the extra pins has to do with the option of running the new 2000sc monitoring system? Can this be adapted? I am doing a temporary run in on this powerhead to ensure its condition before replacing with a different new powerhead, is there a way that I can temporarily adapt this to run it? Cheers JG

Mercury makes several adapters, different lengths & able to adapt an older engine to a new boat harness like you need & one to adapt a new engine to an older boat harness, any Mercury dealer should stock them.
