I'm thinking of installing Sea Star Pro on my Talon T-21. Any other suggestions are welcomed. I've been told that they have developed a superior "Alison" ram that will give some resistance on the wheel so you can feel what the boat is doing. Has anyone used one of these rams??

Side ram.

I've seen the side ram. They are more expensive but I have not seen any High performance boats using them. ??

Wow, ok, I should have said "I've not seen them in person"!! lol Great photos!! Guess I'll have to consider the side steering vs seastar pro. It's obvious that one advantage is having the motor controlled from the rear for better leverage. I guess another advantage would be not having to worry about the ram possibly contacting the hull when trimming up to trailer position. Any other advantages or disadvantages??

If you can afford the best, Bob Latham is the man who invented and perfected this steering for offshore race boats. He also has a new "Power Steering" for outboards, World Class Steering, 800-422-7267 :D

I'm very familiar with Bob Latham. We used either Latham steering or Marine Machine when rigging the Active Thunders and it came as standard equipment on all Fountains. Very expensive stuff.

Hey Jupiter, I just got down installing the pro hydo steering on my pulsare. Love it. With the correct shims there is no play at all in the steering. Never thought the boat could turn the way it does now, guess I didn't have the strength with the rack steering. I got the complete package with the 1500 psi lines for 750 shipped from a great guy here on the forum. Let me know if you want his info...

I have the seastar pro system on my 18 talon,works great so far,but when i called seastar for some technical info,they did not recomend any of there systems for boats running over 80 mph. They recomended raceing steering like the latham styles ect.The only problem i would have is there is no room for a capilano helm under the dash.

i have seastar on 20'hydrostream vegas xt and it does feel like if you grap the rear of the cav plate you can start a shake on the hydralic cyl to center
shaft i think because it is a fluid connection, and it doesnt {lock}

I have had the seastar pro on my checkmate now for alittle over a week. Love the system. Has great feel being a manual hydraulic system. The reason it doesn't lock is because of the PSI blow off valve in the helm itself. It took quite of few bleeds to get the system correct. There can't be anything air in there at all. Went threw 3 quarts of fluid tell all the air was gone and then again after the first time taking it out to shake all the lines good. Now I am no where near the 90-100mph mark but it feels more stable at 70-80 now then it did with the dual rack cable steering. Just me 2 cents, now worth much...

Sea Star Helm with Marine Machine stainless version of Sea Star cylinder on motor. ABSOLUTELY no slop. HEAVY DUTY. Not the cheapest-- but good.
What is life worth at 100 plus mph?

Brand new boat/motor. At speed, regardless of trim, I takes all of my strength to turn left on my Q-shot. This is sea star hyd. steering on a 225hp merc. If I back of the throtle, it will turn left easier. No problum turning to the right.

I run Hydrive 12 volt power assisted hydraulic steering on my ski boat.

Works great. Speeds are under 60mph so I can't talk about high speed stuff but it is great for skiing. Light, easy and smooth. www.hydrive.com.au AUD$3,500 for the kit or about US$2550

A ram system is the way to go if you are running your motor high...
