I am fairly new to this sort of "Boating", and man i cant get enough of it. All the pics and video that is on this site in unbelievable. I have one question in regards to a New Skater 27'. I would like to build one myself by getting the hull and outfitting with a pair of 2.5 280's. Would this be worth it doing myself or would it be better to have one built for me in a package deal? Also. where would i go for getting pointed in the right direction for taking on this sort of task? Thanks Jamie:eek:

IMHO it's TOOO MUCH boat to have as your FIRST boat. Start small and work your way up. A 28' Skater with twin 280's is alot of boat to learn on, especially being that it is a CAT. This is the problem with boating, if you got the money, they will sell it to you. just my .02!!!:) Chuck.

I have to go with Chuck on this one ?????
A 28 not a 27 Skater is a large investment... and if you new to it you may not be happy with it ( probably set up ) off side turns and learning to fly it CORRECTLY.... would be things you would have to learn to adjust for not to mention a thousand other little things......
I have a 24 Skater and I love it .......But respect it also......I have probably 25 hours behind the wheel of this new to me boat ( not my first tunnel by any means) and every time I go out it teaches me something new.
As far as building it yourself there's alot to it and you could easily turn a good hull to JUNK if you rig it wrong or crappy and make it worthless to anyone else except as a rerig. Again safety is key to most of the people on the site..... Wear your life jacket and your teather and find yourself a good entry level tunnel boat to play with and learn and you'll know when it's time to step up!!!!
And please fill in your location ( under user CP) so people near you can help you out!! it pretty good odd there's some closer than you think!!
Welcome to the site
Jeff

I guess we need to know a little more about you and where you boat as well as what you want from your boat...... small pond, big lake , want to run a 100 or 85 all day?? seems like you already like tunnels..... maybe a V will get oyu going let us know but I'm thinking STV Euro with a 2.5 on it??? it will be a good handling safe tunnel that you can upgrade power as you learn what does what and you learn to drive a Tunnel and yes there guy running triple digets with them...Just stertsow 55/60 and work your way up with seat time cuz money won't buy safety.......

I would think a SOB would fit the bill to start. A Superboat Legend (21 ft) with a 225 HP., fast, able to handle rough water. That would be a great boat to learn on. And when your ready to move up, you will get a good part of your money out of it( as long as you don't run the poop out of it).:) Chuck.

I have a friend that had one. almost identical to the one i want. He didnt keep it very long. He sold it for a bigger faster poker run boat. he has an unlimited income so he buys what he wants. I will be running mainly in the Illinois River and sometimes on Lake Shelbyville. My father has a Stratos bass boat that runs in the low seventies, so im not that unfamiliar with speed on the water, but it sounds like the big tunnels are alot different. u guys mentioned the STV Euro. Could you guys maybe point me in the right direction on the best kind. i have never enjoyed starting out something with the "starter" sort of things. i like to jump in with both feet. haha. Thanks a lot for all the information. Jamie

Click on my website below. Go to Boats in stock now. I have a new 25 Liberator with twin 300's. The hull is the same as the 24 Skater

Just did Those are awesome. Spare the twin 300's. What could i get this boat and a pair of 2.5 280's rigged up for? Any idea. I am just getting an idea of pricing. I want to pick up two new 2.5's before they are no longer available. I plan on starting this project this winter and have it running next summer.

Randy you go easy on him He's a NEWBIE!!! Start him in one of your 21 Liberators with decent power and before you know it he'll be looking at that 25 with twins!!!

That boat would be around $50-$52K without power. It depends what you can get power for. You'll need 20 inch motors. The 300's are alot more user friendly and will be much more maintenance free.

If you're going to jump in a big boat head first I hope you get a big center pod boat.Their less flip happy.Stay away from the 24 skater as a first boat,if you can drive it you can drive any tunnel.
