i have s 13 foot speed boats called a SeaRaider. mine are made in '81 & '82. all i can find about searaiders is that its a company that makes aluminum fishing boats. the model of moat is a SR13. theres one in the want ad for something like $400.. seems to be nearly the exact same hull as my '73 MX15. anybody heard of these boats before?
for pics of them both running i can email them to you
the gold one has a mercury 50 horse. top speed 43 GPS
the blue one has a mercury 85 horse w/power trim. top speed 50111107

Old Checkmates maybe?

thats what i thought. I think the sea raider company may have bought checkmate's molds they didint use anymore, such as the mx13, and designed their own (somewhat similar) deck on it.
then again, it may just be a coincidence

I have a 13 foot from 1981 that I cannot explain either.... the title says it's a 15 foot Checkmate, but the vin says otherwise.... like Sea Raider
Looks just like your mystery boat, right down to the smoked plexiglass wraparound wind screen!!!
I kinda like what I have and will be re-doing the whole boat and I will sticker it as a Checkmate!!
It has a 19 gallon tank under the bow, a well running 90hp Merc on a jack plate with power trim, and it floats... needs a ton of cosmetics, but I'm already having fun with it!
Hers's a link to some pics...... it started out as an all black with metal flake boat, but was re-painted at some point...... and I was told a previous owner understood this to be a very rare boat!!!!

What size prop are you running to hit 50? where was the trim at approx?
Thanks!

the prop is a 13 " diameter michigan wheel. serial number AJ-700.
i was told from previous owner it is a 25"p and it has a big cup, so its basically a 28"p. its a 2 blade cleaver. i had the boat trimmed pretty good. i have pics of it running here >> http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m100/juggernaut67/
i can post pics of the prop if you like..
btw, ur boat is exactly like mine. its a searaider. i dont think the bow mounted fuel tank is factory. looks goos though! i want an inline 6 for mine

The mx-13 molds were destoryed in a fire in 72' I beleive, so it definetly was not made from the checkmate molds. I guess someone could have still splashed it though.

they were destroyed? that sucks... so i guess we can rule that possibility out.

Those pics are sweet..:) .. it looks like you have been having some fun with those Sea Raiders!!!.... me too... the tank, 90Merc, jack plate and 3 rear seats were all done by the last owner, and I'm very happy with the set-up! I can run all day with 19gal and the weight is nice to have up front, the boat runs very smooth through stuff that looks rough......
I threw a Sony 100Watt CD/Reciever and a couple speakers in last night and enjoyed tunes all day today fishing/cruising....
I had mine trimmed up and running past 40 when she started a scary chine-walk  .... was that 'cause i was alone (lop-sided) or just trimmed too high for the conditions??

it could be poor setup. mine with the 50 hp runs 43mph. i have the battery on the drivers side, and the 6 gallon fuel tank pushed far up on the passengers side. if i had another 5 mph, i'd imagine it would start to chine. i dont have power trim though :( what year is ur 90 merc? maybe you're running too low pitch, because a 90 horse should push that boat to atleast 50. what prop you running?
btw jonny, welcome to screamandfly

My Merc is a 78 with 125psi on all 6, runs excellent, but the prop is a 2 blade 19p which was put on by the last owner as an afterthought when he chewed up his 3 blade.....
I may throw some trim tabs on this thing before it's all over, making it a better ride with just one person on board...
I am looking for a 3 blade, but cannot seem to decide on pitch, 17 vs 19, but speed is fun, so I am leaning toward the 19..... any thoughts?
Thanks for the welcome

for the record, I had the motor trimmed up and kept pushing it up looking to max out the speed, the lake was nice and smooth and as the speedo was slowly rising I believe I way over trimmed it, cause that's when the chine walk started..... funny thing was I did it right in front of the sherif...

Thanks for the welcome thats alright. the marine patrol wont (or shouldnt) pull you over for trimming. thats like getting a ticket in a car for accelerating on an on-ramp. anyways, your engine should be run at a minimum of 5000 rpm's. i assume that with a 2 blade 19p, you're probably spinning around or above 5500. 2 blade props are usualy for speed runs, so if you were to stick with the 2, you need more pitch. but for all around performance and some good top end, go with a 3 blade. on my searaider with the merc 850, im spinning a michigan wheel 2 blade chopper 25p with a large cup (so its really like a 28). my engine is a 4 cylinder.
if you go with the 3 blade, i sugguest you go with the 19p. it will give you better hole shot, and bring the rpm's down, keeping the engine within its powerband, so maybe you'll get more top end also. but if you want to go fast, get a chopper:D its much cheaper to borrow props from friends and test them, then buy it (if you like it), than to buy it new and realize its not what you want.

I had (2) Checkmate Mx-13's.
Split one in half jumping it so high.
Second one jumped just as high, but did not split.
21p prop is the perfect pitch for those little boats.
Mine chine walked over 55mph, but I put the factory checkmate tabs back on that I had removed and the chine walk went away.
