I have a 1983 hydrostream v-king with a 1983 200 Mariner. The engine has about 40 hrs on it since new rings, bearings, seals were put in it. The boat has been sitting in the driveway for about three years and I am hoping to get it running again. Part of the reason I have not got it back running is that the spline on the crank and drive shaft were worn when I put it under the shrink wrap. I was told it was only a matter of time before the crank let loose. Is this guy pulling my leg? What is the cost associated with fixing this and because it has sat for so long should I expect the worst? Any help would be appreciated.

How did you put it away..?
How did you treat it while it sat there..??
Did you keep the motor turned over. and oil in the cylinder's so they wouldn't freeze up..?
Did the carb's still have gas in them..?
How did you treat the steering ..??
Tell the guys here How you put it away and What if anything you done to it while sitting there..
I'm redoing a motor that has been stored for the last 12 Years...
But was stored right and some oil in the cyl, etc..

Sorry here is a little more info. The year it was put away I had just replaced the floor. The engine was flushed of all gas by placing under air compressor to knock out all fuel. The cylinders were all oiled with a suitabble lubricant. The lower unit was drained slightly. All fittings on engine, stearing etc. were lubed. The whole issue came about because prior to getting the engine freshened up the water pump was not changed consistently. This left salt water corroding the connection of the splines between the drive shaft and crank. Bad case of not doing preventative maintenance.

Its a great looking rig and would like to see more of it. Hope there isn't much to your situation.
