So I actually took the Activator out yesterday and it seemed like the fuel pump was making alot more noise than I remember

It seemd to work ok and the motor ran well.

Is this anything I should be concerned with?

Thanks Scott

Does it sound like cavitation? You might have a restriction or an air leak on the intake side of the pump.

Thanks for the post Tony

I guess it could be, it is really hard to tell, if I just turn the key to it sounds pretty normal, but if it is running it makes this extra noise, but the motor is so loud it is hard to isolate.

I am trying to think what has changed. I did put on new filters. A water seperating before the pump and the small one after and I recirculate back to the tank.

Perhaps there is an issue with the water sperating filter

If it's not air, I would replace it with a new one from Tony. It will save you the thousands in repairs when you start eating #5 or 6. I had a noisy one lean my motor out and it cost me mucho dinero on resleeving. It would run the motor and lean it to death. I had a fuel guage on it when I first got the "noisy" and it looked good. After motor number 2, yes 2, I re-measured the pressure and discovered it at 27psi on a 36 min motor. Kinked the return line and still no pressure. Bought a 984 from Tony and performed the same test. The pressure was back to 38. Kink the hose and jumped to over 100!!! immediately. If I am wrong, your out $200. If I am right, you will have save yourself a fortune. The 280 would have been a perfect motor if it monitored fuel at the rail and the computer could alert you. Everything else is handled by the box?? Heck, the DDT can tell you when you foul a plug and which one.

I learned the hardway.

Thanks for the reply David Johns, you are describing my biggest fear

Well tonight I replaced the water seperating fuel filter and ran it on the hose, I didn't notice the noise, but then on the hose the motor is really loud (my favotire motor sound in the world :D ), So I am going to have to water test to see if it is cured, if not I will be buying a new pump from Tony B ;)
