Can't find mechanic with knowledge and tools to work on 300 Promax Sportsmaster. Willing to travel 100+ miles...Charleston/Columbia, S.C. or Jax., FL. Please help me find somebody to work on my lower unit. Thanks.

Chris Justice ( Half Fast ) works at 4 Seasons Marine in Eatonton , Ga. and is as good a Mercury mechanic as it gets.. He is a MERCURY factory MASTER tech and as far from your normal "Ham and Egger" mechanic as you can get ! I'm not familiar with where that town is geographicley , close or far from you but I bet you'd be glad even if you had to drive a bit ! Give Chris a call @ 1 706 485 4063...You won't be sorry !

My opinion ,

Don't know where you are, but Chris is about 90 miles from Augusta, 45 from Macon, 55 or 60 from Dublin.

Chris is the best.
Another Extreme Marine Female. This is great. Where are you located? What kind of boat do you have?

I'm in Savannah, GA. I have a 21' modified tunnelhull with 300 Promax Sportsmaster. I've been out of the water since Memorial Day...didn't want to tow couple hundred miles but looks like I might have to. Thanks for the info.

All of my tech work is done by Curtis Johnson at Lighthouse Marine, an older Merc only repair shop, in Jacksonville Fl.

C.J. is a Merc Master Mechanic with 45+ years of experience and worked with Carl Kiekafer when the Merc Racing team had an event locally. Just about anyone in Jax that has a Merc at least knows Curtis. Curtis was very close with the Kiekafer Family.

My PMax 225 powerhead went almost/more than a thousand hours under Curtis's care. I always have him do an Annual, just like on an aircraft, once a year and that's all it needs.
Curtis attends all of the factory schools on new products and just completed Verado.
He is soon to retire and just beome a consultant, which will ruin many a boater's day when it happens.

Just curious, who is Max? I don't remember hearing of any K's except for Carl and Fred.

Spoke with Chris this afternoon. Was impressed with his knowledge and manner. Little over 200 miles from Savannah but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks for putting me in touch with him.

Don't know what's going on with John. We live on the same island and he would help me out occasionally. Tried to call him several times and he didn't return my calls. Our parts guy said he saw him few weeks ago. Maybe he's just too busy.

Intercoastal Lady,
We've been from Downtown Savannah east on the River and all around Tybee.
We have also been to Lake Thurmon on the West end. We were wondering what the River is like between Downtown and Thurmond. We can take the boat or the PWC if it's shallow. Is it worthwhile and is there any fuel for the PWC [93 octane] on the river? The boat can go 175 miles roundtrip, if the river is suitable for it. Are there a lot of idle speed zones?
Thanks for any info, we are always looking for another vacation spot.

JR,
We only go up the Savannah River about 10 miles into South Carolina. Real smooth there and no other boats and make some speed runs. We go north on the Intracoastal waterway to Hilton Head and Beaufort. As a matter of fact they're having a water festival there this week...all sorts of entertainment and food. There are several marinas and restaurants on the water in Hilton Head. Or you can go south to the Golden Isles (Brunswick/St. Simon's/Jekyll). Crossing the sounds can get pretty rough and only know of one marina at Colonel's Island. We always take extra gas and food when we go down that way and it's a full day. Just going down to River Street from the islands is a blast and we have a public dock there now.

Thanks Much,
We run up the ICW from Jax to Cumberland Island all the time, [by boat and PWC] and South to St. Augustine/Matansas.
We were going to take a short vacation to Tybee this Summer, but found all of the Hotels were $200 a night. We have decided to try staying at Cedar Key with the PWC instead.
A lot of the local ICW aound Jax is getting really shallow, since they are not dredging areas that are mainly used by pleasurecraft.
