get an 8hp is the first thing i 'm thinkin, got a shot of it? the cam is the limeiten facter, but dependin on how you got it set up now we mite be able to pull some more out, or get it to handle better so you can drive it harder which will make it go faster:cool:
see whach you got.

put a smaller sprocket on it, shave the head, brunch teh CCs, put your clutch engagement lower.www.horstmanclutches.com/ makes clutches check that out.. ummm put a dish piston in it from stock flat . bunch of things yu can do. cart is spellt with a K like kart not like cart.

buying a bigger motor would probably be cheaper than any modification to improve that motor...

I put one of these on a 5hp mini chopper and we radared it at 73km/h.

This gives you a 19-1 ratio, then switches to a 5-1 ratio. The same idea as a set of snowmobile clutches.

I think I paid approx $250 Canadian for it. (And worth every penny!)

You can do all the clutch add-ons/mods you want.. Five horsepower is five horsepower and 30 mph is about all you get. You can buy 8-horse B&S motors all over the place for $300 -- there's 10 more mph. You can buy 11-horse versions too.. Better yet, I'll sell you a TAG kart that you can just get in and drive 100mph -- then I can buy a shifter...:D

I have a serious machinist friend that was into Karting with some buddies, and then with his stepdaughter. When I say serious, I mean he owns a SuperFlow Flow bench, and does a lot of the winning stock car heads around this area. He was getting 18~20 hp out of the Briggs 5 horse on alcohol, and about 16 hp on gasoline, and it takes a bit different clutch setup to get those motors into their powerband.

Yea, I've seen those.. They have $2000 in their motors and I go past them like they're standing still:D. I never understood that kind of mods to a lawnmower motor when you can go faster for much less money with a 2-stroke.. Each to their own, I guess.

Yea, put one of these on there. Gotta love it!!! Looks like a fully modded H2 750. When originally posted by ???, he said it did something like 142 on the Road Atlanta straight.

Well, I think it was class rules (B/S 5 hp), and he didn't have nearly as much money into it as time. He won [B]a lot[B] too. ;)

I can't remember which it was, (550 or 750), but it was tons of fun.

My buddy wanted to sell it to me back then, but I was on the BROKE side, and needed food and beer instead.:D

I think he said 140+ at Road Atlanta.......but that was before GPS, so who really knows....coulda been radared though.

It looks like a 750 (I think the 500's were rotary valve, but not sure).. I believe that it has the power to go 140ish, but I sure wouldn't drive it -- not that fast anyway. I start making funny noises while I'm looking for braking points in my kart, which is 30 mph slower and well setup.. Who know what that thing will do with that much power and questionable setup.. Maybe I'm just a coward in my old age...:D

I drove it a big parking lot (after hours), and never got much more than 4th gear, but what a blast !

The breaks were not very good, and accelerating was alot more fun than trying to stop.

Donuts all day long, starting out in 2nd gear, (5 speed), and, be careful when accelerating around a turn, even it 3rd gear, it would loop out if you weren't gentle with the go petal.

That's sorta what I figured.. A blast to bomb around on in a huge parking lot -- sorta like drifting. On a racetrack it would be (for me) terrifying. All that power and poor brakes?? I have enough problems trying to make a real kart go fast. That one would just kill me..

You are using a 5.5 which is a GS 160 . I have 2 that my son races with and unless someone that knows anything about them, I would leave to them to modify. Depends on the head, year of the block etc... we install a header instead of the " stock square muffler " supplied. Timing is modified,Carb is jetted differently etc... use a good clutch like a Draggin Skin with a 15 tooth gear on the drum and say a 48 -52 tooth gear at the axle.

Hope this helps....and have fun !!!
:D
