It only needs to be balanced on a pad if you're gonna go fast. When trolling for pike, no balancing needed........................:D

Look at the boat of the month that belongs to Jeff Ziemer. Two good pictures of the balancing act. Boat runs 107-108 with a stock 260 and lots of set up time.

The Allison is harder to drive than your Vking. It also handles rough water better.

I've never seen a Grand Sport. It would probably be a better boat for my use than my SS2000.

When setup properly the GrandSport handles like a dream once you have someone show you what to look for and several hours of seat time to run 70 plus, once you get the feel of it there's nothing to it.

Mr. Z, Jeff's boat is a great example, it alway's looks like it's on a rail.

Matt, if you're looking to trade up I know someone that will buy your V-King. He still gives me crap about selling it to some one other than him.

The Allison Grand Sport is much easier to drive than a V King once you have it balanced (about two short runs on the river to set up the weights), especially at high speed.

Check Buy and Sell. I have a great Grand Sport Elite for sale.

They're great boats, and I don't think they are that difficult to drive.:D :p The GS is a much better riding boat than the V-King and has a lot more room inside. You can comfortably seat 5, carry a full size cooler, all the nec. life jackets, without a problem.;)

I had a Vector before mine and I can tell you that it was a night and day difference.

Thanks guys. I really like Allison's lines and I think an Allison will be my next purchase. So it will be harder to balance then my VKING huh?

Chris, I'll let you know when it is available if I ever decide to sell it. My uncle likes it too and has asked me to tell him about it before I put it on the market, so we'll see.

I won't be looking for a few years, I just need some info for a future purchase.

i like the 21SOB and the 21 skaters too. How much power do I need to go fast in a 21SOB or a 21Skater in comparison to a Alison GS?

I had mine built in '98 [it's the slower twin to Jeff's boat] and I am still in love, so is my Wife. We like to do a lot of hi speed cruising/exploring and it fits our mission requirements perfect.
I have 60#s of lead shot in the rear passenger side glove compartment for balance.

I was waiting for someone to comment on that one.:D :D Dad get's a little excited sometimes, however it is a true 105 though.;)

With 1/2 tank of fuel and a full cooler it ran 102 this weekend before I bumped it off the limiter. That was not fun, thought I was gonna turn in a hard circle. :D

Any where from 80-94mph! :)

skydog
07-12-2006, 03:32 PM
105MPH is about all you can get out of a Grandsport. Trust me that is enuff feels like 500mph!! :) The boat was made to run fast with little HP it has lots of lift, it trys to pop the tail out over 100mph. It gets scary!

ZiemerSTV
07-12-2006, 05:19 PM
:I stand corrected. I heard the number incorrectly. It was really 105.7 mph. Anything over that he has to be pushed an STV. The family cruiser really runs great.:D :D

My GSE will cruise nicely between 60-70 MPH GPS at 5 MPG. When our PWCs is following, I cruise at 45 at 6 MPG. The top speed is 95 MPH GPS and I have cruised at 90-91 GPS from Crystal Cove [north of Palatka] all the way to Silver Glenn Spring, [the river and Lake George were like glass]. My Wife wasn't even holding the "grab bars".
The GSE hull carries a load well also without much speed reduction for passengers.

what kind of setback are you guys running on your Grand Sports?

JR, you haven't discussed the finer points of the thrill of an intentional bat turn.

Do you have any pictures of that. A V King will certainly never pull that off.

The first pic of this "Boat of the Month" I'm sure is running over 100. Look how level it looks.(Don't look at the second pic:D :D ) This boat will do every bit of 105+, just takes seat time and a good 260.

Yes and we need video of this. Saw it in Palatka couple years ago. How often do you change your jack-plate bolts?

gselite2000
07-12-2006, 10:34 PM
Uhhhh....are we supposed to change them...or was that question directed at JR who probably needs to change them after every Bat turn?

Scott

8-10" NO more than 10" Way to hard to drive over 100MPH. With a Cle with a cone. 1/4" below the bottom. And never cut the gas at speed. Dont over tirm in the rough with a big friend in the front seat. It will turn, run a 24-26 Hoss Triton one.

what kind of setback are you guys running on your Grand Sports?

7" plate, 15" mid and even with the pad.;)

Uhhhh....are we supposed to change them

Only when they break.:D :p (At $90.00 a set from Allison you don't want to have to do it very often.)

Sent you a PM. How do set up your weights. How much and where do you place them...and where is your battery?

Any particular reason you chose 7" set back?

Just curious about all of this, I want to experiment with mine some.

When you have the HP [like Jeff Z.] you don't need as much setback, but I am running 14.5" [includes the 2.5" built in to my 15" midsection].
So far, I haven't broken any jack plate bolts, just the engine mount bolts and ripped off two of the cowling skirts.

When i had a 15" mid i needed about 12" to fly the boat. But if you are going for all top end. With no weight go with 6-8" of set back. And 1/4 above the bottom of the boat that should net you 105-107mph MAYBE :)
