Last week I installed a 2.4 Bridgeport on my stock 200 mid. I could not get it to plane off. Matter of fact if I kept my foot in it it died. After mucho reading I changed out the stator and switch boxes with the ones from my previously good running '89 200. No difference at all. Exactly the same. Well, better charging since I went from the 9 amp stator to the 16 amp.
So I switched the carbs. The ModVP had wh-34's on it with bowl baffles and surge tubes installed. I assume factory. Mains were 76's. No vent jets
Has a Holley red w/regulator.
The carbs I installed were wh-28's. Mains were 80's, vent jets installed. Runs much better, but still bogs on hole shot. Once it hits 3000rpm it takes off. If I flood it with the primer it is better. Seems good on top end. 6000rpm with a 23P Tempest Plus.

Ignition is 8 BTDC on idle and 25 BTDC at WOT.
It has stock 2.4 3 3/8 bore 2 piece heads and compression is 117-120 across.

Ideas?

What are your idle jets? Check to see if they are .056 jets in it. That is what you need. I run those and .086 in the mains with no vent jets. I also use the wh-28's.

Thanks Mike I'll check.

I was just thinking (dangerous at best):

I wonder if my tuner end is underwater? Could that cause this symptom. My 200 behaved much like this before it's untimely demise. I wonder if I'm developing enough speed at 3000 that the tuner rises out of the water and then whamm off it goes. What made me think of this was that yesterday was very rough and it was awful trying to get planed. Friday was quite calm and it planed better.

I wonder if an over hub prop would help evacuate the mid section rather than the Tempest I've been trying to use.

does that prop have vent holes in it? you would not believe the difference that will make. Do a search on it.

Yes the Tempest Plus has the PVS and they are open.

Any input?

Can the engine buried deep cause this?

If you can you need to try a chopper or some other type of over the hub prop. My carb Bridgeport would do the same thing with a thru hub prop but with an over the hub it would tear out of the hole like you would not believe.

I have a 24 chopper thats pretty rough, but worth a try. I think I read somewhere that that's what guys used on Challengers and such with a 2.4

I'll clean it up some and try it on the weekend. If it helps I shop a good one.
