Have you looked at the glen l tunnel mite? Or is it to close to the max? http://www.boatdesigns.com/products.asp?dept=369

I built the tunnel mite about 25 yrs ago and thought it was a neat toy. It's by no means a raceboat by any stretch of the imagination, but I stuck an old Mark 30 Merc on it (probably double the intended HP) and played with it. It'd probably be a lot more fun for a kid with about 15 or 20 HP. I don't know of a better setup in a small tunnel.

I had a Mini Most when I was a kid and think it's a more fun all around boat for a kid than a tunnel mite.

My buddy built a Tunnel Mite back in the mid 70's and we hung a mark 30H on it. Never could get the boat to .run like we thought it should have.

I have a set of plans for the Clark Craft Aquarod, it's a 15' tunnelboat. Kinda thinking of it as another project some time, with a few tweaks it could look quite modern.

Brian we built one when I was about 14, still have it in one of the buildings at the park. It had a 30 or 35 ( cant remember ) on it. really cool little boat for kids we ran it between coboconk and norland for a long time.

maybe a smaller motor for younger kids, nice easy boat to play with.

I Would Second The Sugg From Alan But Maybe The 8' For Younger Kids, The 15' May Be Good For Young Teens With Good Hand Eye Cord.
I May Build The 8' For My 7 Yo For Next Summer. How Old Are The Boys? Great Suggestions, All Around Great Thread.

Gave my boy a 8' Sea Flea two years ago when he was nine.
First summer we had a 6hp on 'er and he putted around the bay.
Beginning of second summer saw a 9.9hp on it and he scooted around the bay.
At the end of last summer I put an old 12hp Elgin on 'er and watched him fly down the lake. He's very respectful of the boat and it's performance and is not too big to tell me when he's scared himself. The boat does not turn very well under full power and he needs a LOT of room to get 'er around even though I've put a skeg under the port sponson. He's learned to throttle down when turning but he still looks nervous/apprehensive.
I've got the boat on a very quiet lake in Northern Ontario for his own safety even though he asks to bring it to our home on a much bigger/busier lake.

it was a great kids boat. was able to get 38 mph using a 25hd merc. the motor must of turned 7000. never wanted to have the kid go any faster. the 17 little mecr chopper may have put it into the high 40s.
