Attention local Boaters: !!!
Schroon Lake is again under scrutiny by determined blowboaters and self indulgent retirees to impose unnecessary regulations on those that wish to explore speeds limits, over 45 mph:mad:
Current regulations
1. No Wake Zone from Horicon Boat Ramp to Sand Point
2. 45 mph speed limit "Along Horicon Shoreline" Sand Point to Adirondack
3. Speed limit imposed 1,500' from shoreline:rolleyes:
The town of Pottersville, Chester and Schroon Lake Village decided last year to not support a speed limit on the lake, but it was passed by the Town of Horicon via the support and drive of Joe Koch who lives at 536 E. Shore Drive.
Mr. Koch is looking for support in his fight to convince the other three towns to support "HIS" speed limit which will affect any vehicle on the lake,,,ie snowmobile.
IF VISITING SCHROON LAKE - Please do not travel above 45 mph along the East Shore up to Adirondack. We DO NOT want to give ammunition to any person who wishes to infringe upon our rights and leave a legacy of unnecessary laws which impune those rights.
There is plenty of room alone the western shore and alot of state owned shoreline along those shores.
HELP US KEEP THE LAKE LIMIT FREE:cool:
Thank You

Been up there the last few weeks, what a mad house the lake was especially the 4th weekend. None of the regulars were there although i've finally seen Macs Skater has made it to thats dudes camp on the river. I'm sure the guys have'nt been around because the state is kicking everyone off the Manor beach, or maybe because the water level is so high and there is no beach....anywhere. Heard from a buddy there was a blue STV roaming around a couple weeks ago also. Hmmmm. I'll be back there in a couple weeks. Thanks for the update Rick, hopefully everyone will survive this one to although everything seems to be changing.:(

I was looking for ya, was there monday thru thursday, but no Rossi:p
There was a gentleman w/ a checkmate that I spoke with about the speed limit issue, then showed him what fast is by blasting 112 mph past Eagle Point
What no capital "C" for Checkmate!:D :D
112, damm that's fast! Fasted I went was 90 some, on Godspeeds boat, in a little chop. I kept looking for a strap or something to hold on to. I learned the meaning of "Scream And Fly" :D that day!;)

1) There's no enforcement on Schroon Lake anyway (once per year, usually on the 4th), and there probably never will be. All the enforcement is on Lake George, and it has literally no effect (see #2 below).
2) There's been a 45-mph limit on Lake George since 1988. It's never obeyed, and almost never enforced. I have never seen anyone get stopped for speeding, nor have I ever been stopped. I have never obeyed the limit, and never will. I'm just careful about it. I used to not be so careful. For example, in 1991, I came up the west side of Northwest Bay at a little over 98 mph in my HydroStream. The LG Park Commission guys were at my dock with a radar gun. Showed me the display--98.4 mph. Asked if they could have a ride. Gave them a 90-mph ride, have never been stopped since.
3) The "Schroon Lake guys" (Mac, etc.) need to stop drinking all day and then making fast passes anyway. I have said that for years. It's only a matter of time before someone eats it. I don't think the speed limit will stop what you guys do, but you really need to think about it.

There's a 45mph limit on the private lake I live on. The homeowner in charge of playing "water cop" lives on one end of the lake so you can get a little crazy at the other end...and I doubt the "enforcer" has a radar gun. The outboard HP limit is 90HP so not much you can do anyway although I still occasionally think of buying a small hydroplane and screaming across the lake. The inboard limit is 120HP but a lot of those boats sure do sound like V8's. Nobody seems to check those.

I agree with you on most John, I too have taken the Sheriff for a 100+ stab across the lake, more or less to show support for us AND he's a curious friend:p
The "gentleman" who is "propping" this limit is getting a little overzealous in his pursuit of prosecution;)
Just not looking to give him MORE ammunition:cool:
Will be back up in two weeks, will buzz ya and thanks JT

Rick, That guy you were talking to at Eagle Point is a good friend of mine who travels with boat in tow from Florida every year. He used to live in Saratoga but the disease of Schroon has got a tight grip on him to. I'll be up there in 2 weeks also but I'll be at Eagle Point instead of the cabin so I'm sure I'll run into you.
JT...excellent point(s)

HaHa. No, it's a blue hair lake. They even bitch about remote control boats cause they're a threat to swimmers. And as mentioned before the annointed water cop does nothing about the V8 soundin' inboards that sound like V8's. Supposed to be a 120.HP limit on those. One of my neighbors snuck in a newer jetski that he'd just bought. There's a HP limit on those also. He made one pass and came back to shore. A minute later, the "Man" showed up and told him not to put it in again. Fortunately, a bigger, wide open lake is five minutes away. The usual dilemma is do I want to go there, drag out the jetboat, hook it up to the truck, pay to launch, etc. OR just walk out in the backyard and cruise the mighty Force. I think I had the jet out twice last year and haven't even pulled it out of indoor storage yet this year.
Still Crazy

How about this one? Portage Lakes in Northeastern Ohio has a 400 HP limit. You can't even splash a 496 HO Bravo powered boat even if you do nothing but putt around the "No Wake" zones all day with the pontoons! A 2.5 280 powered Euroski running 120+ is OK though. What bone heads!

Clyde,
It's not like anyone of the "Blue Hairs" or others even know what they are regulating except to be annoying and impose their will upon us legally boating, law abiding citizens:rolleyes:
Maybe we can ban BLOWBOATS as they are a hazard to motor boats:eek:  ;)
