OK gang,we are starting to plan a run at Blair's Jungle Den in Astor,Fl., on the St Johns River,the weekend of Aug 18,19,and 20th. Those of you who have been there know how much fun we've had,those of you who haven't will learn;)

If you want to stay north of Lake George try Harley Puites. Great place. Jungle Den is nice, but it is sooo buried in the wake zones.

Maureen,the hotel is not bad,my room was clean but it is a fish camp not the Hilton,all it is,is a place to sleep and take a shower,you are not in the room much.We have had a lot of fun here and the no wake zones are not an issue,it only takes a few minutes to get through them in either direction

I second what Lance said about Harley Paiutes.Yall realy should consider that place for a gathering.Its completely hidden under oak trees for shade and the rooms are pretty clean too.They have gas and a big BBQ pit and covered awning for partys.Its also on the St Johns river where there are NO NO WAKE zones or speed limits.Its where the FBI drags are held.We could have our own little grudge races rite there in front of the place.Just a thought.The Dens rooms stink too:eek:

Yeppers!! I love the Den! Been there a couple times since last November..Ah, Maureen burn a couple candles and ya can't smell the mold.. Its a hoot, my cousin lives on the other side of Lake George and it freaks her out everytime all the fast boats show up. I'm gonna have to stay off this river ( Alafia) for a while, I was hassled all week-end, got stopped 4 times, 1 speeding ticket, 1 warning and alot of mean looks:rolleyes: And I was soooo behaving..

I like the party-ability of it .All I can say is at least consider it.Maybe go and check the place out one day that weekend.Its way better than the Den.You can party there too and there is a ramp.You dont have any speed limits or no wake zones.Just back in the water and haul a$$.Just go and see for your self.Don the owner wants us there.He said he would love to host a gathering or two or three.Its all shaded and we are very welcome there.

I am not saying to move this already set in stone venue just that there are other better places to gather than the Den in the future.If nobody wants to open their mind to other possibilitys then thats too bad.I'll go wherever yall want to.I am not saying the rooms at the Paiutes are super nice or anything but it is in my mind a much more practical spot on the river.

Not true if you head south on the river. Just past the bridge, there isn't another no wake zone for 17 miles until you reach Deland. Of course, there is a speed limit there, but other than a holiday weekend, I've never seen a water cop on that stretch of the river. I was at the Glen Monday, July 3, and you can believe it would have been a ROUGH ride back across Lake George that day. Luckily, I was in my 18 foot CC.

As far as Jungle Den, I've never stayed there, but Fish's brother said it was "too rustic" for him, because it didn't have a remote for the TV! :D

Whoa, I'm impressed. Man Lee, I'm really dissapointed in you. Your barely 30 years old and we already need to start calling you Grampa. How depressing, I used to think you were cool. I know this isn't pertaining to the JR II but, how did you guy's get the water spots off the mid's from the last Suwannee trip ?? I put this here because it's mostly the same group. On the speed run trip I didnt have this problem. Same set up and same section of the river. I dont want to mess up or scratch my paint with something harsh. WD 40 and regular wax aren't cutting it. The wax is very slowly taking it off. I dont know how many more coats my shoulders can take !! Mike

I went inside the house and took some of the wife's bathroom cleaner. The stuff we had was called "The Works", but I would imagine any type of soap scum/water spot removal type cleaner would work. I sprayed it on and used a bug sponge. After a few applications it cleaned right up. It did leave a few surface scratches, but a nice coat of waxed took them all out. ;) (If that didn't work I was going to try something like Lime-Away or CLR.)

From what a few people told me, the residue is from the lime rock, that's what led me to the bathroom cleaner.:D ;)

MIKE M. , If you know what it is painted with (mine is PPG Durithane) you can use a agresive thinner . I use M.E.K. on mine and it just wipes right off . Try a small area out of sight first and check for color transfer on your cleaning rag before you get all wild with the stuff . Rich Martin 018:eek:

I took a demo ride in the jet deal and was less than impressed. The entire idea of the deck boat loafing along at 38MPH was very difficult to swallow so I went a different direction.

I don’t know about Saturday evening because I went to bed around 2:00am that night and she was still up. Now for the Suwannee run she was a little under the influence Saturday night and turned in early but that was just one time. We went over to the jungle den on sunday to check it out before attending the event. it's about a 35 minute ride from the Daytona Beach area on SR40 west than we follow the Blair's Jungle Den signs. it was nice place, right on the river with a single lane boat ramp ( the cost was $5.00 a day for none hotel guest) there was a speed zone right in front but north of the hotel/motel there wasn't. There was a small bait like store and gas pumps. it's seems like it would be a great place for a alley. For those of you who wouldn't like to check it out on the web the site is blairsjungleden.com. Counting the days ... another item I have added to the pile of stuff is an extension cord and a small 20 " high velocity fan for the inevitable and always anticipated parking lot party .A few more would be a hit . Food is another consideration , I will be bringing a table and a small grill with utensils and propane . I will cook for an hour or so but then it's on to partying and watching others cook so, OPEN SEASON on the grill !!!! Can't wait .

yes I am the manager unfortunately back in 04 the hurricanes did a number on our roof and it took forever to get it repaired and lots of $$$$$$$$$ which the insurance company has drug there feet on paying the claim.It took a year to get roof done and by then we have incurred even more water damage which the insurance co. does not want to pay so right now there is not enough money to get it done till the insurance co. gets off the wallet or we win the lotto! But there are a few other places close by Astor Bridge Marina's Rest/Bar is now back open it has different people now that Bannana Dan guy is out too much trouble from what I understand.Well talk at you all later
