Was wondering what would be the best set back for 78 V-king. Running 2.4 with 28 chopper and a 2" jack plate. wanted to go with more...wanted input first. Can anyone tell me where i can find fittings or bezels to connect 2" rigging hoses to an aftermarket alien cowling. Got Eddie Marine hoses and transom bezels, but nothing to cowling.

I ran a 1981 V-king with a 200xs Short shaft sportmaster bolted on transom 3/4" below the pad. Never thought of the shorty until I talked with Randy Pierson. What a dream of a boat to drive. Low and close is best for handling. The boat runs 90mph. Hope this helps. It's not how 99.9 % are set up but then everyone is not Randy.

bottom condition (hooked, rocker or straight)?

conditions of use (rough, calm, all water types, cruising, skiing, just going fast, drag racing, roundy-eound racing, etc.)?

Weight of boat/driver/passengers/gear?

Health of engine (200 hp? 225? 240? 275?)...

Propeller choices (lo rake, medium, hi rake, pitch, diameter)?

These are all variables that should be considered when experimenting with setback and engine height.

My Vking has a 6" jackplate and a stock 200 2.5 and it will pull some crazy g's in the corners and run so flat and perfect on the pad.
