I'm looking at a 2007 GMC 2W Yukon w/ a 5300 V8 to tow my boats. Does anyone have one or a Tahoe? Anything good or bad about this package?

Thanks-

...with the 5.3 that he uses to tow an 8000 lb boat back and forth to S.Fl. several times a season. It has 230,000, I just gave it it's 2nd tune-up, (plugs, filters, PCV valve, and cabin air filter), is only on it's 2nd set of brake pads. He has used synthetic oil since day one, and changes it every 5000 miles. Without the boat, it gets 19~21 mpg average, about 17 city. I'd bet the newer ones are even better.

SCT- wait untill the end of the year when the 6.2L variable valve timing motor comes out. its a bad MF- 24 mpg highway, 18 city and close to 400HP.

I have a new Denali with the 6.2. Also had an 04 Tahoe with the 5.3. Both tow great. The Denali does tow better but it has a lot more torque and a 6 speed tranny. Before you buy check out this site. http://www.pistonslap.com/

I had a 2000 GMC with a 5.3 that had piston slap. The thing sounded like it was going to explode every time you started it. As you can see it didn't stop me from getting my new one.

put the right oil and filters in the trucks and they wont make noise...

even if they do slap, it doesnt effect the performance or longetivity any. pistonslap.com is a few select money hungry lawyers whipping people up into a frenzy about NOTHING. friggin sheep.

ps- that is an awesome lookin denali. black is badass, but it must be a bitch to keep clean.

Not true about the piston slap. I kept perfect care of my truck and always used synthetic oils. It is a real problem that I have witnessed myself. A guy that works for me has a vette that had the problem also and GM put a new motor in it. My truck sounded like a dam diesel when it started and you can't possibly tell me that it is normal. Again like I said it didn't stop me from getting another one.:D :D

2002 Yukon XL with 5.3. Great tow truck and family vehicle. I too had piston slap, GM replaced my motors internals. This problem was cured with coated pistons and better tollerances. If you are looking at anything newer than 02 you should be fine.

Just had to replace the rear dif. in my 01 5.3 Silverado:mad: Side gears are GONE just short of 70k miles!!! Mine also has the startup knock and the front end eats the inside of the tires. Had the shop change the alignment and now it seems ok...?

Fortunately I haven't had any other issues with mine, and as you can see I work the heck out of it. I'm at 110,000 or so now. (Piston issue was corrected at 34,000)

Thanks for the info guys. I ended up buying a 07 GMC Yukon w/ the 5.3. So far so good. The Yukon/ Tahoe definitely gives a great ride and the new body style is nice. I haven't pulled the boat yet, though. The thing that amazes me is that this truck is suppose to get about the same MPG (22 highway.....we'll see) then my previous TrailBlazer with the big V6.

Speaking of Tblazers, my gfriend just bought a new one and is having terrible luck with it. Alot of stupid cosmetic and interior problems (power windows, knobs falling off, driver door hinge). It must have been assembled on Friday afternoon. It's been back to the dealer 2x and still not right.....

I have a Tahoe Z71 with 5300 and LOVE it! I had a V10 Ram before and was afraid I would miss the overkill. The Tahoe tows my 24 Skater like it's not even there.

I had a 2000 model silverado standard cab, short bed, with the 5.3 and an auto, and it made racket all the time at idle, and I ran synthetic in it from 2500 miles on.

It ran a 15.4@86mph in the 1/4 mile stock, and got as high as 23 on the highway. It towed awesome, after I put a roadmaster active suspension on the back.

It was in the shop 7 or 8 times, all for front end issue's. I should have made them buy it back.

My tundra is a way better truck, it just doesn't have the beans the 5.3 did.
