1998 200 efi 2.5 book say .200-.300volts temp disconnected its a pain to start when its cold it just hits and kick the starter out when its set in this range smokes like crazy. If i set it to .160 its fine fires right up good hole shot. when i got the boat 5 or 6 years ago it was set at .125 poor hole shot and lean sneeze. I'm just tired of taking forever to get it started when its cold. is the .160 going to do me any harm I don't want to torch this thing.
I have checked the temp and air sensor both with in spec, timing 25 max 0 idle, fuel pres good, det cont box removed and oil pump removed. 40-1 penz syn. enrichment circuit rewired into push to choke on the ign switch
thanks j

Go aheah and set it there if it runs good and makes you happy, but keep in mind, if it doesn't run right at the factory setting, then something else is playing havoc with the EFI system, perhaps a bad temp sensor or ECU MAP sensor.

Disconnecting a temp sensor will make the overall idle and midrange mix very rich. Are you sure that the head temp sensor got plugged back in after the last test?

Does that motor have an idle stabilizer box or any other timing module besides the det controller?
The motor must be rid of ALL of these extras for the max timing to be set at 25 deg.

everything plugged in. i took both the temp and air sensors and put them in ice water and watched them on the ohm meter as they warmed back up.Then on the eng i disconnected them while it was running and the idle changed richend up.Map sensor ok far as i can tell pulled vacume and idle changed there to and barb fitting on manifold open.
No idle stabilizer on this model just had the det control which i took off 2 or 3 years ago when i did the oil pump and reeds and bumped timing up to 25.I even checked the injectors one time to see if they were spraying funny or leaking all looked the same no leaks. Now keep in mind with it set in the .200-.300 range once it started you were good for the day just touch the switch and it fired up. It just seems like it way to rich in that range. I've read some of the older post and i think brucato said he's set some with the analog ecu's to 0. I wonder if i just have a odd ball here i'm assuming my ecu is analog part #824003a0 14623a15

hope i didn't kill you or anybody else with to much info

Sounds good. Only last thing I would check is the enrichment circuit. The effect is quite pronounced if you push the key in while a fiarly-cold motor is idling, it should stumble rich. The XRi will IGNORE the enrichment function when the engine is warm.

Just set it to the point where it starts and runs best. :D On my 2.4 XRi, I have always set mine a few hundredths richer than the manual says to do, it idles smoother without lean-sneeze that way.
