I bought a boat last august from a guy in Missouri. He bought it in Ohio. Nobody ever got titles. I finally got hold of the original owner whos name the boat is titled in. He says he got title copies and sent them a month ago, but still no titles. Seemed like a sincere guy but I'm tired of waiting. What can I do? Is an attorney my next option? HELP!!
Thanks, Ro:mad:

Maybe one of our S&F members in Ohio could meet him at the courthouse and pick up new copies from him and forward them to you or WHAT EVER IT TAKES to tighten him up.

talk to the license office. in washington you can get it registered while waiting for the title.

A bit extreme but call the original owner and let him know that all libility for the boat still falls on him (True in Florida). Tell him you have been letting your 13 year old son run the boat with his friends and you want to make sure to get insurance for your own personal safety but you would be happy to continue allowing your kids and their friends to ride around on his risk!!!!
In Florida there is a form that you can fill out and swear a statement that you are the rightful owner. Then you get the new title and the registration. Call your tag office and tell themthe situation because they typically have some kind of protocall for this. Your definentaly not the first one with this problem I would assume.
Good Luck

Not sure what you meant by license office in Washington. Washington where? Also state registrations are per each state unless your telling me something I don't know. Please enlighten me. Other than that thanks for your help, I can use any I get.

Ro, If you have a bill of sale you can call the Texas Park and Wildlife Dept and they can tell you what steps to take. This is the department that issues the boat stickers. I am going thru the process in a somewhat similar situation and it is frustrating.

Thanks for the help but I been going through this for 10 months. I need some solid info or a good lawyer, I'm tired of screwing with it. Don't want to call and threaten, that's not how I work.
Thanks, Ro

Ro,
I sell quite a few boats & engines to customers in TX and have run into this before due to the fact that AR does not title outboards. Seems like I remember them (TX) have an affidavit that you can fill out and along with a notarized bill of sale that you could get it titled. Don't remember the exact forms needed, but it can be done IF it came from a state that does NOT title outboards.
May have to call Dept Parks & Wildlife in Austin.
Hope this helps.

Here is what I would do!
First get the forms needed to file for duplicate title in the state the boat is titled in. Fill out the form with everything but signature needed. And any fees that state requires to get the title copy. Mail it with a forwarding envelope (with postage) and a certified check for the state fee's made out to that state.
Mail all this to this guy so all he has to do is sign and mail it. Have the title mailed back to you. With a signed bill of sale from him to you.
Include all directions and envelopes with paid postage.
You should have not purchased the boat without proper paper work!!
