View Full Version : Michigan: Coldwater Chain of Lake's Drag Race Schedule
95RapidRiot

We finally got a schedule together on the chain lakes between Coldwater and Quincy in southern Michigan. It is located really close to both the Indiana and Ohio lines. Although it is closer to the Indiana line. The main Lake is Marble Lake (With a Nice Sand Bar!:D ) located in Quincy. Mud lake is on the chain closer to Coldwater.(No Sand Bar:( )
All races are on Friday Nights with a general start time of 6:30. I believe we have race time from 6:30 to 8:00. No money to enter just show up and run. The course is usually around 800 feet. It is basically grudge racing. All boats and spectators welcome! We usually have a few Outboards, a couple Jet Boats, and once in a while someone will bring a V-Drive. Guys will run everything from regular gas to alcohol to nitrous. It is a lot of fun to see different types of boats run together. Also bring your own beverage. The water patrol is there the whole time. After 8:00 we shut down the running and start the BS-ing!;) The Water Patrol has been good in the past about sneeking in to the launch at dusk without lights but if you have them it would be better.

Who's plans to show up ? July 7th......my weekend off..........works for me:) :)
I was thinking of going to hardy that weekend, but Marble lake is only an hour away from me, and it's a great spot. I think I might have to take the boat down there instead.

I think I can make Marble lake on July 7th so get ready for another house cleaning. :D Bring the video camera's.
There's a MHBA meet and a Bad Apples meet at Brower park on the 8th too.
This sounds like I may have to go down there on the 7th. Hardy is too far of a haul if I'm going to have to beg someone for a tow. I'll be there at Marble with the boat and the camera if all goes well. I have to do some wrenching on my lower unit and find out why it's leaking lube first...

Low comp heads with a new set of spark plugs, last years reeds, and a 24 ET. Sold the 22 Yami. I don't think I'll be too competitive but it'll be fun just to go out there and race.........:) I'm not paying 4.89 a gallon just to run up and down the river.

It is all sounding good. I should have my 17' Pugh SST120 boat by the 7th. It is rigged with a mean 2.5 and NOS. Steve Heintz did the motor and rigging. (Ruck did the Block to S3000 Specs) Steve did the final hand smoothing on the ports for better flow. It also has a MAD Intake, Light Flywheel, and Brucato PCU. Then Dave Saldecki was a huge help on setup. The test drives have been good so far. I can't wait to drive it!:D :D :D The best part it is all primer sealed grey. My favorite color!(LOL) Ran out of money. :(
It sucks how much money you have to spend just so your oldman(Larry Reiniche) doesn't kick your A$$ all the time!
See everyone later!

Well, so far we have 2 maybe's with Roger and Kibbey, Unchained, Larry, Pyro and me. It's a long(and expensive) drive for Mark(Unchained) and myself if there's only a couple of boats. Who else is gonna show? Let's see some names and boats..........
Main problem right now is getting a tow down there. I can probably borrow my neighbor's conversion van, I'll ask him about it tonight. I have to give him a check tonight from my friend who purchased his 2 hp Johnson. I found the buyer, and delivered the motor. He owes me a favor. :D
My gearcase is dribbling lube out from behind the prop. I don't think the 200 case likes the 240 HP. :O I'll top it off before I head out. Hopefully it stays together. Shaft seal? Carrier? Who knows. I will launch, idle over to the sandbar to drink beer, then straight back to the launch at the end of the night, no playing. I'll put my beater prop on in case it goes to the bottom of Marble Lake. :D Being broke and single sucks.

I agree,
No sense going all the way there with no competition.
I was taking for granted that there would be some out of staters with hydros like last time.

It looks like my brother and I will be making the drive down to Marble Lake. We'll play on Friday, then stay overnight and go to the Bronson auction on Saturday. It may work out great......boats on Friday and snowmobiles on Sat.;) Is there a decent motel with a reasonable rate near the 69 / US12 exit?

Theres a Ramada, couple years old, right at the exit. About $50 for a single, I think. Maybe higher on summer weekends, though.

HEY MARK---- I FINALLY PICKED UP A MOTOR, 93 200 LOOPER WITH A BURNT PISTON. YOU TOLD ME EARLIER IN THE YEAR YOU HAD SOMEONE IN S. MI. THAT WAS GOOD TO DO THE PORTING AND BLOCK PREP.
THE MOTOR IS PARTIALLY APART (PISTONS,CRANK,ETC.. STILLIN BLOCK). IF YOU ARE GONNA BE AT MARBLE FRIDAY I WILL BRING IT AND LET YA HAVE A LOOK-SEE. i COULD COME UP EARLIER IN THA AFTERNOON IF YOU R GONNA BE AROUND.
ANY ADVISE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I had a change of plans here. A friend from Chicago enlisted me to help him get the EFI on his new turboed jet boat straighened out thursday and friday. He's one of the badapplesracing.com guys who will be at Hardy on July 8th.
They'll be running on 50% alcohol and were not talking about the kind you put in the engine.
I'll be wrenching on that and going to Hardy with the rest of those maniacs on saturday.
See you there.

Actually, I do know your boat. I was at the Rumble last year and watched you run. Not bad for a refrigerator with a cold air duct on top. But what you need to remember is that last year was a poor turn out at the Rumble compared to years past. There weren't really many competitive lake racer boats there. When you finally ran up against one, G-train, he showed you his roost and the quick way to get to the finish line. Your boat ran respectable in a small crowd of average boats.
So with that said, I think I'll just stay at the lake and enjoy my big comfy couch with the rice burner on the back since it appears that a couple of the faster boats.....RD aka BigdaddyHN and Unchained aren't going to show anyhow.

Reread my post. I said WE. I included myself & like you, everything I said was meant in fun. Sorry if I offended you.
Point two: G-Trains' boat ran well. He beat me by 4 or 5 lengths or so as I remember. However, I promise you that if we to rerun now & if he ran the same E.T. as he did then the outcome would be different.
I will be at the Rumble again this year, weather & conditions permiting. I don't even know what you've got but lets run & if you beat me I'll tell everybody all about it.
High-performance boating isn't any fun unless you're drunk, right?
Unchained, so what you're saying is, instead of coming to Marble, you're going over to Hardy to get drunk and watch other people get drunk and drive? I was going to shoot video of the clock cleaning at Marble. Well screw that idea then.
I sure hope you were being sarcastic, Rob. Of course it doesn't cost anything, other than gas money. :D

Several ways, a couple of wich are classified.
Serriously folks, a real good 22 & 24 Yamaha as opposed to a fair 26, the motor stays runing durring the holeshot now instead of quiting for 1-1.5 seconds due to fuel slosh in the carbs, we worked on the set-up & it leaves alot flater, 500 more r.p.m.s than I had last year & probibly, hopefully another 500-750 when I install the Yamaha ignition next week.:D
Pyro- If you come to the ramp on Marble next to the old marina I'll be glad to come pick you up & bring you to the sandbar.:)
