View Full Version : Putting in oil check valves

Oil is leaking when sitting in garage. I was told to install check valves on 150 Yamaha. Is there a particular point in the line that they should be installed i.e right at the cylinder or in the middle or does it matter??

Often the problem is not occuring when you think it is. It normally happens while the engine is running and then drains out of the air box while sitting. Yamaha's already have check valves in the oil line to each intake port. You don't say what model it is. Turn the key on and see if the oil pump starts running. Look at the level lines on the engine mounted tank. If the oil is above the normal level and the pump is running, it will pump it out the vent into the airbox. different things cause it on different models.
Make yourself a note not to ask that guru for any more information.

thanks for replying. The pump is only running when it should be. What happens is when it sits in my garage the oil slowly leaks out of the small oil tank on the engine over a period of a day or two.. It comes out through the foot. It runs fine other than smoking on initial startup. I was told one of the check valves must be letting oil leak through and by putting an additional check valve on each line it would stop the leaking. Any thoughts?

had the very same problem wit a V4 140 hp yammy not too long ago .

turned out to be the seal behind the oil injection pump had started to leak oil into the crankcase .

couldnt see the boat for the smoke on startup .& also ended up wit a puddle of oil on the driveway after sitting tilted down fur a couple a days.

when tilted up the puddle of oil ended up in the outboard well.

the seal was'nt available separately . so had to get a complete pump, oillines & checkvave kit. approx $570 aud.

cheers AL.:D

Update I put in check valves on all the oil lines and it fixed it. Ran it for 3 hours on lake, put in garage not a drop. Thanks for all your help.
