SHIFTER Problem

I bought my boat minus motor, mounted a1996 3.0 250efi onit hooked everthing up . when i put it in forward it goes in reverese ,reverse goes forward.disconected the cable shifted by hand moving lever on motor to the back boat moves forward. took shifter apart how do i get it push and not pull ? boat had an 80's 200 on before. This suggestion depends on your ability to do modifications.
Take the cable that normally shifts and secure it (somehow)
Use the housing to shift it. Like I said... your skills will be taxed!

You don't have a Left hand case. If you have a Right hand case, change the cable in the control box. It's late and the brain can only think that far.:rolleyes: I don't think the case is different than 2.4 types other than it has a Spool, like out-drives.

Thanks Dave; I do have a counter rotating motor. what has to be changed ? i have a left hand prop on it.

hook it up with an omc shifter, their reversed from merc. mose universal shifter work both ways. to convert the LU your better off to sell the counter and buy the correct rotation.

Thanks i was thinking about switching the lower. but thought there was a easier way to do it before i changed the lower.

un less you do the work your self[ have a freind do it] it starts adding up quickly at $100 per hr. the rebuilt merc LU is 24-2500 for reference.

I am going to change the whole lower not the gears. Anyone want to swap lowers 25" lh for a 25" Rh ??
