I saw a very sharp yellow Dozni today, i think they make a 22' model and i thought to myself, that boat would be badass with a 300x or even one of the new 3.2 stroker motors. Does Donzi even offer an outboard package?

Only in their center console fishin' series boats. None of their performance line are outboards. Here the link to the outboard Donzi's.

They have made them in the past. There were some that left the factory with outboards. I guess they are kind of few and far between. I love those boats, say some at the boat show, that lil 18 classic would be an awesome lake boat.
Maybe this question would be better answered on the Donzi forum?
donzi made an outboard in a 16 back in the 70's, but they are pretty rare I looked for one for about 2 years before finally finding one to buy. http://eatmyboogies.com/wst_page4.html

Donzi also made one factory 22' and it is now in texas. It is rumored there was a second one but unconfirmed. I also heard there was a 18' that was on the cover of hotboat with a johnson on it back in the day, but no one seeems to know where or what happened to that boat.
I also saw a 22 that was converted with a splashwell over in the bahamas.
Finally, I got an email from a guy in texas who took a 22 that was damaged, pulled the deck, and made a center console out of it. Pretty cool too.

ive got one of the 200 original 16 foot baby donzi outboards. Don Arranow himself guided the modernization of this boat just a few weeks before he was assasinated. with a mildly enhansed omc 225 it goes 82 on gps. the traditional coke bottom ( chine walking above 60mph) bottom has been modified to an allison flat pad. the boat is rigged with a seastar helm and a k2 ram. 32 gal gas tank, foot pedal, mach crt, b bracket custom fixed bracket. it is a 1974 and ive owned it since 82. brand new sofla trailer. dont want to steal the thread but last night i pulled the motor to rig my new FTP T3. and if someone comes in person and ponies up, they can have this pristine example of boating when men were men and sheep were scared.

I have a 1971 17' Formula. It was an evolution of the formula jr. I saw a 22 Donzi for sale last year with an OMC outboard. It looked factory, with splash well. I think it was in the north east.
My boat:D
Fish, what are you numbers like with that 150, there is a 16 o/b near me that has sat in a storage building since I was a kid, it has an I6 150 on it. I was thinking about restoring much like you did and putting an opti on it.
Love to know more about it.
I have a 77 18, with a 400 sb and an alpha ss now

Tig, that is the same boat that is now in texas. cool formula, I always loved the formulajr too.
RBT, these are not fast boats; they are really heavy. I do not know top speed since the motor is still In break in. I am guessing low to mid 50's when all is said and done. The I6 is a great motor for this boat and it is what the boat was designed for. Here is a picture of my mom's old one back in the early 70's with an I6.

BTW, in a small world note, this boat was the mercury calendar and catalog boat that had a hot chick on the bow... the chick was Parker's mom. Seriously!
I hear that, my 18 with about 400hp, runs 63. I figured with good set up the 16, would run low 60's in OB form.
I would give the I-6 away, and put a reliable opti on it. If I want to fast there are other ways.
This one in paticular also still has the windsheild........ which I like.

[QUOTE=tigweld]I have a 1971 17' Formula.
I had one of these with a 135 in line 6 Merc. It went 48 on the speedo. It was fast in the 1970's. I'll see if I can find some pics.

I'll keep an eye out for ya HF
we've had this one in our shop a couple of times
aerj, that is the one confirmed factory 22 outboard donzi. A guy who lived in the north east used to own it until about a year ago, then he sold it and it went to texas.

I have the outboard/22 classic donzi in my driveway right now. I am in the process of purchasing it. I am not impressed with the performance AT ALL.
we cannot get it to keep from cavitating/blowing out the prop at 3 grand. It only goes maybe 50.
Its got a 25 pitch prop on it.
Oh yeah and Mr. fish... I am the webmaster/owner of the donzi.net site so I guess I am the little putz behind the curtain.
We have alot of great people on that site. Just like this site.
As Fish said, there was only one 22 that left the factory with an ob. The restored 16 that Fish pictured is incredible. I love the dash they did on it. Trust me, Fish knows his Donzi's, he ought to. It's in his blood, so to speak.;)
I was looking for a 16 ob when I bought the Mx14, that I recently sold.
I own two Donzi's right now, though neither are ob's. One 20 foot Minx, one 22 Classic.
First pic is my 22 in Miami.
Second pic is the Minx on the Suwannie
Third pic, you might recognized the STV, and the boat next to him is Fish's brother's 22 Classic. :D

Minx, Probably so. It looks great but needs alot of TLC to make it more dependable as well as able to perform with a boat its size.
It originally had twin outboards. What it really needs is that v8 dinosaur taken off the back and a newer lighter outboard put in its place.
Madpoodle is freaking out because I just happen to have a complete 525 horse 502/Bravo 1x drivetrain laying around.
Hey Fish, is that you Jodie?

Did Don Aronow guide the modernization of this boat? Did you take it back to his shop at USA Racing & his workers performed the fiberglass/gelcoat modifications & re-rigging? Or was this something he guided you with, over the phone, or...? Thanks, AirRide

Saw one last year at "Thunder On The Gulf" in Orange Beach Alabama. It was a fairly new model ( didn't ask the guy the length but guessing it was between 24 -28ft)that had sustained some significant hurricane damage in the past and was converted from inboard/outboard to outboard with twin 300 promax'swhen it was redone. Was painted silver metalflake and had blue ghost flames on the front and big blue Donzi insignia on the sides at the rear.Interior matched in a grayish leather ( which I thought was a little ridiculous for a boat) and had raised flames in the seat backs. White Gaffrig gauges and shifter with blue bezels.Carpet was blue with two gray flaming stripes on the outside edges. Also had no splashwell and was set up like the one above with the OMC but with twins instead.Looked cool as hell.Guy said not including motors he had over $30k in the restoration or what ever process you would call it..Ask him how fast it would run and he said that was only the third time it had been in the water since it was redone and he was still working on setup but he had ran it up a good bit over 80 MPH and it still had quite a bit more left in it.One of the coolist Donzi's I have ever seen. Was going to bring my camera back the next day and snap some photos but he was not there the second day.Had a Florida registration but I have not seen it at any other gatherings."Thunder On The Gulf "is at the end of August and I will have my camera with me both days this time and if it's there again I will get some pics this time and post them! Hydro
that sounds really cool hydro, I would love to see some pics of it. I have been to a lot of the donzi events and not seen it, but maybe it will show at the big party this fall in Sarasota.
Here are some pics from a guy in Texas who had a similar situation. Damaged 22' inboard that he decided to turn into an outboard bay boat/ Center console. I love the hull and would love to give a project like this a shot, just to see what it would do.
