I got a 1977 Baja 16 ft with a 115 Johnson outboard. The prop is a 13 x 19. Got it in the water and it ran 45 mph with just me in it and about 5 gallons of gas. I was expecting it to hit around 50 to 55. Does this sound right or should it have more speed? I dont have a tach so Im not sure what the motor was spinning. All cylinders have 125 compression.

Get a tach, you're probably spinning the hell out of it with the 19 on there. Try at least a 21 or 23 pitch, see which one gives you correct RPM range with good performance...

I had a 1975 16' Baja with a Merc 115. Ran low 50's with a 21" prop. Motor was mounted very low.... probably could have picked up a few mph raising the motor..

Try a 22 raker it will surprise you. Is your baja wet? I have a 20 baja and with a 200 it ran 55. I have now lightened it and working on set up. Post a picture. Rick
