speedracer

Rumble on the River: August, 18, 19, 20 - Carrollton, KY
There will be 3 drag classes at this years rumble and the class rules are as follows:

1st. Unlimited: Boat must be powered by outboard motor.
Prize Money : $1,000.00 to the winner Entry fee: $100.00

2nd. Pro-Outlaw: will require all boats entering this class to have a minimum of 2 seats which both seats must be securely fasten to the boat. Any motor combination, any modification allowed, NO NOS, no bottles in the boat. Note the boat must have been designed for 2 seats and again both seats must be securely fasten in the boat.
Prize Money : $100.00 plus 100% payback to the winner Entry fee: $25.00

3rd. River-Racer: will require at least 3 seats in the boat (Bench seat counts as 2), any power combination, any modification allowed to motor, although there will be a compression restriction. COMPRESSION WILL BE LIMITED TO 145 LBS. PER CYL. How this will work is, when you arrive at the race site I suggest you come to the Pavillon and get the compression gauge that will be used for the test and do a compression test on your motor before you enter the class. All gauges seem to vary a little, so we will just be using one, MINE. Suggest you do this with your engine warm as compression may go up or down with temp., and if you win the class, you will be loaded on your trailer, pulled to the pavillon and a compression check will be performed on ALL cyl. If compression is more than 145 psi on any cyl. you will be DISQUALIFIED.
Prize Money: $100.00 plus 100% payback to the winner. Entry fee: $25.00

As always any boats entering any class must wear a coastguard approved lifevest, a helmet, a working kill switch, and have a functional fire extinguisher.

Pro-law class should begin around 10:00 a.m. with River-racer immediately following, and unlimited to be run at 1:00 p.m. sharp. The course will be approximately 700 ft. with a flag start.

Grudge racing will be allowed immediately following the unlimited drag's, the Poker Run should begin around 4 p.m. Dinner will be served around 7:30 p.m., Dinner will be grilled burger, brats, corn on cob, etc. and a cold keg of coors light. All free! Thanks Tony.

My Mirage is single seat but the boat is open just like all the River Racer 3 seaters without the rear seat, the inside is plenty open for another seat it just never had one, no NOS all motor where does it fit in? I could screw a small seat into it to run Pro -Outlaw I guess just wondering before we get our hopes up

I like the "spirit" of the 3 classes, but you can have ringers in the River Racer class. Some VERY LIGHT boats have 3 seats and can make these rules.

Last year, I went to Laker Kosh for the first time, and Bill Gohr went around to each boat, checked it over, and put it in a class (after asking what class they were going to run), if he thought they were trying to pull something, he would check it out closer, and change their class, if needed. I think this worked out well.

This requires a bit more of your time, but would make a fairly level playing field. I don't think there will be too many boats that will be in the official race, that you couldn't do this, and have your decision final for a boat in a class. You could listen to a brief argument if you changed someone, let them state there case, and then decide. 80-90% of the time, you can glance at a boat/motor, and know immediatly what class to put it in.

I know I could put my new boat in the River Racer class, change heads, and run the Outlaw Class, and maybe run Unlimited too. I don't think this is what you want.

Just my Opinion, and I'm sure we'll have fun either way.

Thanks
Greg

No scales so no real weight limits, like Popslavaz reminded this is for FUN so just come and run, I have more fun grudge racing than any real race i've ever been to. I've run against NOS boats slow boats very fast boats or anybody who waved me on.

I'm going to a 22 pitch prop this year. I really got waxed last year running that 24 cleaver and the 27 srx , i might even get out of the hole a little faster! :) For those who have not been able to make it, try this year. I would like to see some more boats down there this year! http://media.putfile.com/thaw-ripper-vs-baja-18-80 What a Blast!:D

Yammer, put those fake bullet holes on the boat like the ones on your truck and you'll definitely be an outlaw. Those stickers really give you "street cred yo". And they are really cool looking. Later, Dave

Speedracer,

It was just brought to my attention that in the lake class with the 145psi max compression that all the 280 mercs will be excluded. In factory stock form on my snap-on gauge the last two if I recall correctly were in the 155-8psi range, the same gauge will pull 130 ish on a stock 260.

Just a thought.

RBT, I was thinking the same thing about the 280's. My old one was 155 on your gauge. I hope they let the 280 in that class because there is a certain yellow STV that might come with us that would go in that class.

I never thought of it but yes you do Wayne. I was thinking of my friend Mark who has the same all yellow Rocket that you do, and runs a 280. He could be quick....

MAY actually. If I cant run on pump gas with the 280, I just might switch to methanol at 145 psi.

Jeff "Yammer"
06-29-2006, 04:31 PM
I guess that means that you'll have to step to the next class then ;) . !! . Simple ..........

No, I will run methanol+ at 145 psi compression in my 3 seat lake boat - even more simple.

I think Tonys intent was to keep out the 300 Drags and 280 race motors.
Correct me if I'm wrong Tony? Was it just the 300 Drags?
Wayne would love to see you show! Hearing rumors of some heavy hitters (including Tinker Toy-----again!) doing the road trip and maybe some of the Floridians and Coon Asses!!

I was told that 280/s were about 135 with stock heads, Ill be the first to admitt I dont know much about mercs and what compresson they run stock. I was trying to keep this class pump gas motors only.

RBT
06-30-2006, 08:07 AM
It has been my experience that a stock 260 will have about 130-5 psi, and that a stock 280 will have 155-8 psi. The only reason this was brought up, is I have 3 friends that all run STOCK 280's with 260 electronics and they want to run the lake class. But are ousted by PSI. I don't really know what to think, as I like the 145psi rule as 99% of motors fit in that, the only example is the 280 and mod motors. But the 280 really isn't much different than a 260 with regard to power output.

I will happily also donate my snap-on gauge for the rumble compression checks if that helps, I doubt that people will refute it's accuracy.

I had thought that the first class was non-HP motor class . I must have read wrong or thought differently. Its gonna be hard to get all the guys off of their trailers that have the mildly modded 200's ( ..... etc etc etc ) that we've allways wanted to to participate but they've felt they didn't have a chance anyway. Guy's like Instigator and his STV ...... he'll get crushed , guy's like what I had in my V-king ..... I'd get crushed against the very stout motor that Wayne is bringing on his lake boat !!!!
Anyway ........ just a thought.

I like the idea of G-Train's post. I'm sure if Gohr shows up he'd be happy to do that for this if Tony wanted it.
Anyway ........... I'm not going to get into a tech. talk about ........ yes it is a lake boat .... BUT !!!
It would be great to see that first class be the most populated class at the Rumble. There are allways enough boats ........... but not enough people who think they can.
Anyway .. I hope Tony just does what he wants. Remember this is about just having fun ...... and so much about the winning. Its a very big HP-O/B social party with a bit of racing allowed. Not a Race with social party on Saturday night. ( and thank god for the fact we can party more than just Sat. night ....... ahahahahahahahaha ......... I think if we allow 280's in River Racer it will keep the guys with rigs like my STV RR (4 seat) stock 225 Johnny on the beach.
Most of the guys with those motors have them on fly weight boats and should probably run Pro Outlaw anyhow.
Tony is the boss though and what ever he says is fine with me.
Oh by the way, I will be running my pig in River Racer regardless:p

What ever happens they should have a class for non factory race motors. No 260s, 280s or 300s. If that means another class then they should add it . We need to get NON racers in some where .

I agree with Instigator. Whatever Tony decides will be good enough for me also. In fact it was the encouragement and help from both Tony & Gary that first got me to grudge race a couple years back. Now I am hooked with a lot less money and a generaly pissed off wife about my boats.;) I will even have to run in the Unlimited this year. I will probably get my butt kicked but it is all fun no matter the classes or where you finish. It is just really cool to see all the different boats run. I do hope the lower class has the most boats. This is something my Dad can fit into with his MAD 3.3L. Although he will be close on compression?

THANKS!

Tony and Gary,

I would say the best thing would be is to hold a drivers meeting on Friday night since 85% of the people will be there on Friday night. Address it to anyone who is going to either Race or Grudge race. Throw it out there as to the classes for the actual organized racing and see if there was a more of a stock class like a stock 250 hp and less class on a normal 3 + seater boat, how many people would fit in that class. If there was enough people to fill another class that would be more or less on the bank watching otherwise. Have a fourth class for these people that would like to challenge others that do not have race boats or race engines. This would probably get 8 to 10 additional boats that would not maybe even be out there grudge racing off the banks. This is not only for the people that attend the event, but also for the city of Carrollton. There are a lot of people who show up just to watch this event, and when it is run like the organized racing they stick around. The grudge racing sometimes gets alittle slow when they get the boats out there and some of the local yocals leave. They like to see the organized part of it, and wouldn’t mind seeing the stock boyz run a few head to heads.
Just an idea to kick around that you can decide on the day of the rumble, not to throw a class together now. Just to throw the idea of it on the day of the event (Friday night)
