What boat model are you talking about?

Skydog The SS 2000 replaced the XR 2002 It is a great boat very fast and the late model ones have no wood. On your post of Allison or STV someone told you to look at the Triad 21 it is a ski boat weighs over 900# and Wally casted the bottom from the old Allison no easier to drive then any other one.

Skydog, the SS-2000 (Super Sport) is totally different than the XR-2002 in looks and lay out. The SS-2000 has more of a XS-2003 Grand Sport look.

The pics on my site of each owners model should show you the difference in them.

Check out www.scaryfast.com, a lot of Allison's for sale. I think John Tiger's boat (red SS2000) is still for sale. If I was in the market for an Allison I would buy that one.

I think the Grand Sport is slower than the SS2000.

Here's a pic of a VERY FAST Allison

skydog, Couple old pictures of my XR2002 interior before it was rigged. This is an '84 model but the newer ones look to be the same. The liner makes it hard to get decent seats in the boat without them sitting too high. Can be done but you have to cut some of the liner out.

The Triad is a very different boat than the Allison, it is not a cast off, yes it has some styling cues.
It is better built than an allison, and faster than the grandsport, and as fast as a SS2000, it also does not hook.
Wood is not a problem.--------it is no different than steel (one rots, the other rusts---if water gets to them, it is all in how it is sealed.

I also work for an Allison dealer.

RT,

What makes a Triad better built than an Allison? Thanks.

The Allison is a very well built boat, don't get me wrong, but my side business is rigging, and I do a lot of Allisons and from spending time in and under these things you really get to know how they are out together. The Triad, has a finish on it that is mind blowing, the fitting of all the structual peices it perfect. Take your hand and run it under the dash of both boats and , one feels like a babys bottom, and the other stiches. I also have see quite a few bottoms cracked on Allisons----never on a Triad. Wally's boat are a true custom boat, he will build you anything you want. Allison is not much different then Sea Ray.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Allisons, I just think that the Triad is a better boat. I spend a lot of time in both, so I feel qualified to answer, I must have missed the Allisooooonie Brain Washing Video.

Firewalker I also have had both SS2000 & V21 Triad. The bottom of a Triad is a copy of a old Allison. Wally will tell you that and it is not just wood in the transom. It is under the dash in the seats, in the floor and everywhere else. The first time I took the V21 out and hit a big wave the first piece of wood under the deck broke in half. The pad & the haul angle are the same on both boats. The Triad weights 950# the Allison is 750#. You will never get a V21 to run as fast as a SS2000 with the same horsepower and the Triad is no easier to drive. Both boats are great but if you want to go sking buy a V21 if you want to go fast buy a Allison. Wally puts on a lot of very nice multi colored gel on his boats, they look great, but if you look at it close you will find a lot of imperfections in the gel. Allison is not into paint. Just a quality boat that goes fast. What Allison dealer do you work for? Thanks Dave

if the Triad V-21 is slower then an allison, then why is it that chucks triad V-21 whoops up on ALL the allisons in the odba. he even has to weigh more! i know he's got a lot of power, but not that much more.

DAVEBB

If you are talking about the Triad with OMC on it, it is over 200 cubic inches with tons of Mercury parts on it. I said with the same HP put that motor on a SS and see what it does. That is also the only V21 running.

it's a 3.0 omc and i thought they were around 180ci, maybe a little more for .030 over. and what merc parts are you talking about?

Firestarter
04-02-2002, 08:56 AM
First, you can order a V-21 as light as 680lbs, second, I look real close and the gel is perfect. Third Allison will even admit that Wallys V-21 is not one of their boats, and Wally will say the same. And finally the Triad is a lot easier to drive, with no steering torque and a stock gearcase, with 280 mercs they are within 2 mph of each other.
Two guys two opinions, I don't want to get in a pissing match, but the slomc is 180 cid, and has weight added to it over the 153 cid behind the liner merc.

Also keep in mind that an Allison has no wood in it where the Triad does. As for boats breaking, I think we were all at Firewater 2 years ago when Bruce Mason's Triad lost the entire side of the boat....that was AFTER Wally had already fixed it...so Rob, I wouldn't be climbing too far up the Triad quality tree just yet. I'm not saying that Wally builds a bad boat, but I saw one come apart not once, but twice after being repaired right before my eyes.

I've sold a lot of Allisons and have never had one crack. Scott Gilmore was the only person that ever had a boat problem and that was because he was actually the person who brought about the GrandSport recall for the transom inserts pulling through. Every other boat has been completely trouble free.

Allisons are very unique. There's a LOT more cockpit depth and the speed, I have yet to see, is unmatched by a Triad.

At Firewater the last two years, Sebastian and John Dorn, with 225 ProMaxes were only 1 mph faster than me in my old SuperSport with a stock 150 ProMax. I don't think the Triad will run 117 with a 280 will it? There is VERY little depth to the boat and it started it's life as a GT20 - no matter what changes have been made since, that boat started life as an Allison bottom.

They're a great boat, but you can't say that Allisons break and Triads don't - it's just not correct.

Firewater is a great example because it is a regulated event. Allisons have always won (other than John Lentzkow's killer drag boat - a Triad) but other brands - Rapid Craft, STV, Mirage, and HydroStream have never been nearly as competitive.

As I've mentioned before, come on out, go for a ride. Sit in the boat, go over some waves, see how it handles and how much fun it is to DRIVE. I've had tunnels and they're fun and easy to drive, but they're not as much fun as an Allison.

OMC loopers are 183 cubic inches, at 3.685 bore. At 4.00 inch bore they are 220 cubic inches. .30 over pistons add somewhere around 6 inches . The only merc. part I have found to fit an OMC is the black paint.

no, Wayne Talor parts some MSD through in about 400 trips to Gaylads brand new set of wisco pistons stock crank and rods you still get 183 cube inch 3.0 liters.
The carbs are plastic 1987 modle.
This is how the engine raced
damn just thought of all the merc parts on it 1 count em 1 lighting ET.
Dont go thinking that all the mercs out there are 2.5 2.7 is a more commin number.
merc can take credit for going fast just not on this boat
I have seen Chuck stick a piston be for a race hone a little acid new wisco go to said race cover evey body its a good class for the omc most of the credit for that boat going fast be longs to Chuck and his bud Acie.

Eric:
I know it's cheating, BUT, would that be Louis Collin's old circle race boat? It actually had rice burner on it (listening Yammer?),
but I decided to put a fast motor on it.
Anyway, rumor has it (I wasn't there) that Louis was winning one
of the big left coast races (MVP/Havasu/'85, '86?) with the boat, and barrel rolled it, ending his afternoon with a swimming session.
Maybe Brad or BK can give us the details?
It made a terriffic hot rod lake boat. Ran like 105 with a 26" on
a 2.4 EFI bridgeport. It ran mid 11s in the quarter.
Regards,
Steve
