Hey guys. I was looking at a boat for sale, but I'd only buy it for the motor. The guy claims its a short shaft, but to me, it doesn't look like it. When I searched, I read that on the shorties, they had the lower motor mounts and lower shock mounts almost even. In the pictures, it doesn't appear so. Is there any other way to tell without measuring?

Very Definately Long Shaft.

The information you pointed out on the lower shock mounts is correct. At a glance, the easiest way to tell is by examining the swivel bracket which you have a clear picture of. If the lower yoke that the lower motor mounts go through is below the swivel bracket, it's long shaft. If it's a shortie, the swivel bracket is in a poor way of describing it, hollowed out so the lower yoke is in effect up in it.

Only thing shortshaft there is the fact that the cowl probably came on one assuming it's not over the counter.

If you look at the picture posted by LakeRacer99 about half way down this page you'll get a good idea of the relationship between the lower shock mounts and lower motor mounts. Don't let the picture posted by Bruce farther down the page confuse you............. it's a custom housing.
