My boat just got rated for a 175hp. Can I get my 150 xr6 (2001 model) modified to get 175hp? What has to be done? How much does this cost? Will this modification void my 1 year manufacturer warrantee? How about an extended warrantee? One other thing - is it leagal to do this?
thanks a lot

Glenn,
1998 and newer outboards may not be modified from their original configuration, according to EPA laws. Up to $2500 a day fine for violations.
Luckily for me, Every one of the hundreds of SVS systems that I've sold are used in competitive racing only!:D That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Check the contract for your extended warranty, but it's probably the same as Mercury's warranty. Modifications will usually void your warranty at the discretion of the factory rep.
Are you still interested in modifying your motor?
High compression heads, Bob's exhaust tuner, louvered engine cover, and velocity stacks will all help the cause.
If you're looking for more top speed, your efforts and money might better be spent on set-up. Engine height, set back, and prop selection will likely net more of a speed gain than the 25 HP will.
