which prop would be give better bow lift, a merc chopper or tempest/trophy thru hub, this is for my 21' 2000 lb fully loaded starlfite. I have moved the engine way back, 13", jacked the engine up, even with the bottom, and removed the front faom and any excess weight and I still have to trim up considerably to get the hull to loosen up and go faster. -shane

I've found that a stock Trophy or Tempest will have better lift than a stock chopper. However, there's a lot that can be done to a chopper to improve its performance...

The big 'Mates seem to like the thru-hubs.

A Trophy will carry the bow ,if you can get your hands on a older trophy ,a big hub trophy ,this is a great prop ,
They don,t make them no more, some said a revolution 4 handles the same ,but I found it doesn,t come close to a big hub trophy.
Also a Mazco Re 4 will provide great bow lift.
Are you sure your bottem is straith?
With all that setback ,it should run clean.
Maybe you have to try to lower your engine ,so that the prop is getting a better grip to make bow lift.

Mazco's are custom, they're not all the same. I tried a RE4 once that was factory tuned for a light tunnel for drag use, and it had zero bow lift on my boat, but it pulled like a bitch out of the hole.

The engine was lower, i started out about 3" below the bottom and now I'm all the way up on my jackplate. It didn't lift any better until i removed the weight from the nose a couple weeks ago, that has helped the most but it still needs a bit more. I believe my engine is a rather light weight 2.4L and it I achieved my current max speed with my wife sitting in the back seat and that helped a little to. I think i just need a non chopper prop for this boat, I know this engine was designed for a chopper type prop pushing a light weight tunnel hull so I think i will keep the pitch low like 22-24p I am just trying to hit that 70mph mark and with 240 hp I think it should. Is there a big difference between a 3blade tempest and the 4blade trophy? I would think the 4blade would be better suited for the torque of a 2.5-3.0L engine but I could be mistaken, thanks guys for the input. -shane

VENSURA /OFFSHORE is the same prop as the A45 trophy.... just with reduced blade cupping... easy to reprod the older a45... with a call to rih boger or other trophy experts

Or find a prop you like, one that runs well with your boat, have that prop worked to aid in your bow lift.

also running lowerunit a bit lower in the water will give more leverage and added lift... since you raised it after moving back perhaps its to high for it to carry the bow...

I've ran choppers, trophys, and tempest on my old Hydrostream, and the Tempest has way more lift compared to the others. im holding on to that prop for when I get another V-pad. Ask your local prop shop for a loaner to test. The big general prop shops will usually have a big inventory of used props that they will let ya try.
