That is one small looking 200! Looks kinda like a 9.9 :p Bet it runs like a dream though. Good luck with them. Quadruple ETecs is probably 1/8th of the aggravation of twin 260s!

Wasn't there a rumor that Merc was up for sale or a buy out or something? With all this E-Tech stuff going off I would think the Merc boys could be feeling a little heat under their asses. :D :D It looks like a better mouse trap could be just around the corner. :D

yeah, merc is really worried:

merc has also had a 200+ hp 60 degree vee motor that is green since 1999... and it dont look like a storm trooper (although it might look like darth vader):

I think the e-tec should have R2D2 as their rep, not the storm troopers, the storm troopers are on vaders side, representing merc = evil. lol
Does look nice. Am interested to see what people will be able to do in the performance market with them. One question... is that plastic that goes down the sides and rear of the mid? How does it look without that if it was able to be removed?

First of all, I love the comparison Bash! I never realized how much they do look like stormtroopers. Also if you remove the extended pans that run down the mid, it looks just like any late model OMC/BRP outboard. The big pans kinda make the 25" look like a 20".

This particular one is not self-bailing. The boat can be built to be self-bailing,but the floor has to be raised slightly.

Also, the boat currently belongs to Barney from Action Marine. Reported speed was 75mph spinning two 27 RX props. Will be taking more pictures this evening. I'll get a few under the hood and try to get some "in action" shots.

Action Marine doesn't currently have a web site. The 23' is the biggest boat they currently build. Available in center or side consoles. If you're interested, I could get you a phone#. I know they have recently changed locations, so I'm not sure if the phone has changed also. I will try to post as many pics of the different models as I can in the near future.

Someone has to of tried mounting an etec to a Hydrostream or similar hull!!!
The only thing I dont like about them is that lightning gear case!
But 7 years warranty:eek: you gotta like that!

the last two vegas XT's had a carb 225 HO and a 225 HO etec on them, they ran the same.

Tuff 21 with a 225 HO etec ran almost 90 mph GPS

You didn't have issues with the rev-limiter on the Etec?

I'm thinking that in afew years I'm going to want something with great gas mileage and I hope by then BRP will have a decent low water pick up case!
90+ will be just fine after I break 100 with a merc!:) As soon as I can afford a new motor I'm going BRP eTEC.

just get a bigger prop, its designed to make its horsepower just under the rev limiter so why rev it past its porting? I'm not sure what the final prop was but it was something pretty big. the boat is still running around in Muskoka I believe. at first it was sitting on the rev limiter but it was repropped to avoid popping it.

True, but doesn't running a huge prop kill your all-around performance? If I wanted to take 15 minutes to get to top speed, I'd just buy one of those old 2.4 bridgeport Mercs. I'm still waiting on some dude in the Keys to catch up to me.:D

question... why can't titus cone an etec case or would it still be a pig through the water with junk internals? Next question, why can't you throw an etec on a taylor 16" mid and run a sporty?

I caught this in the Brunswick "Marine Engine" segment report, apparently pursuant to outboard manufacturing:

"Operating earnings are expected to increase in the second half of this year as we mark the anniversary of the transition date and as we begin to realize more savings from our lower-cost manufacturing facilities in Asia, at which we are currently ramping up production."

Not to hijack the thread, but are they going to be making whole motors overseas? Brings a new meaning to "offshore" huh...

Not long ago they closed the bowling ball plant here in MI and moved it to Mexico....just like many other manufacturing plants that used to be here.

I thought Mercury has some patent on the LWP so nobody else could build one? (another bright idea from our government) It was talked about a while back with the HPDI.

who is stopping anyone from putting a nosecone on a stock case? as far as I know titus will do many cases... not just merc, I heard he did a yami case, why can't an etec case be coned with a lwp?????

call titus hell do it... there isnt that much difference between the newer and older BMC cases.. it may cost you and he may require you to sign a no liability clause.. if its his first install..

I know that there are many ways to add L/U pickups to any case, but I was told that having it done would void the warranty!
