The surface drives are being used for race boats,They seem to be very good drives.I see them in magazines and on the web.
That boat does have a weird hull!

They are older drives but they are very strong and reliable. The motors are good power, maybe a little weak for that hull. The drives offer zero bow lift more so with round ear props. The hull weight would be the key to top end and they are a little heavy and I think the tunnel is too narrow for a boat with a 10'beam.Nothing beats a test drive though.I no expert on Cougars but I would research that model or drive it.You might try inquiring about it on Offshore Only.com.They have alot of old builder/racers that have told the history of most offshore boats.I'm sure there is a Cougar thread.

go to Offshore only, and look up Brownie. He was the US distributor for Cougar ( from England ) some were built there some were built here. He would know the real deal on it/them. He is a no BS guy.
You could also call him at Stainless Marine.

Brownie?
He has handled my warranty replacements at Stainless Marine. Is he running the place on his own?
That is the guy, probably one of the smartest guys you will talk too. Add that he has seen and done it all and then some.
