Are these motors any good. I think they are 3.4 litre? Friend has 3 in good shape good compression on all cylinders. What are they worth and are they worth investing in ? I only need 2 Thanks Davepnola

Buy all 3 so ya got parts. They are sposed to like gas. They say crosworth on the block somewhere. For $1000 you can't buy much and you can use the $money saved on lots of GAS. The newer ones have better rods with big bolts.;)

can they??
Those are older motors for what I know. (the Merc guys would know way better than me though)
They didn't have a very good reputation and weren't in production long from what I think I know??
I would guess mid/late '80's if they really are 3.4's.
Neat motors though.
I think Raceman has one on a deck boat still. (till he dies I'm sure ;) )

Davepnola, I ran a stock version 3.4 300HP merc for ten years almost trouble free and then an EFI 3.4 for two more years. If you keep the motor at 6000 rpms or less it can be a trouble free motor. The motor was designed as a torquey engine mainly for use on heavier center console boats. In the ten years with the stock 3.4 powerhead I replaced a couple of switch boxes and a lower unit that I tore up on hitting a stump.Get the third motor for parts. Frank

Yes the 275 Offshore (3.4L) is listed in the Merc 1994 Consumer Engine Catalog (25" and 30")

What is the deal with Cosworth Motors? What is the difference? Can the motors be used for performance or is a waste of time? Thanks
