View Full Version : OIl Injection Removal
When I do away with my oil injection and put a cover plate where the oil pump was do I need to put something in place of the gear and plastic bushing that is in there ? Isn't there a bronze bushing that the gear shaft rides in inside the motor? If I leave the gear out can that bushing fall out and chew up the inside of my motor? I can make an aluminum shaft with no teeth on it to replace the gear and plastic bushing but is it nessesary?
The bushing won't fall out , its pressed in. The kit to remove the oil pump comes with everything you need to fill the void.
What does the kit all include? Just the cover plate and gaskets? I need to use the boat this weekend and will not be able to purchase a kit by then.
You can just make a plate but the open chamber left in the block is not good for performance.
I can turn a plug and plate in one piece on the lathe to fill the void. As far as the void goes are you refering to the area that the plastic bushing displaced in the side of the block, or the area that the plastic bushing and gear shaft displaced?
The area between the plate and the bushing. You can do what you are saying. Just don't foul the gear on the crank with the new part.

I guys. What kind of performance loss whit just a cover and gasket.
Loss of primary crankcase compression.

Then loss of bottom power or all the way ????
It takes away some crankcase compression from one cylinder which in turn takes away a little power all the way across the board but mainly on the bottom.
Still crazy

John, I'm sure you have answered this many times before. Does Mercury make the kit to eliminate the oil injection and what is the kit part number? Does it come with instructions?
Oil pump block off plug 43453
O ring 32509
Two screws 41506
I ordered a "blockoff kit" from rickracer, and all he sent me was the plug/cover by itself. Was I supposed to get screws and an o-ring? I e-mailed him about it...

I ordered from Rick and he told me there was a kit, but all he had was the block off, so Pyro we both need the "O"ring and screws. I am a plumber so I should have the "O"ring, annybody know if we need different screws, are the pump screws too long?
I can shorten the screw and clean off the threads. That's no problem. I will need the o-ring, though. It would have been nice for him to mention that I would need additional parts...
