Well we're into some of the final stages. The area under the splash well is done, well maybe some final snading/cleanup but for the most part it's ready. We've come up with a paint scheme, maybe a bit adventurous but I "think" I can do it. We'll enlist the help of a custom paint friend to stand watch over me just in case! The transom got a thin coat of 3M's marine filler to even out some small imperfections, the pic did'nt turn out so I'll have to snap another tonight. I had planned to lay one more layer of glass and then resin the heck out of it as the final, but now think the thin coat of marine filler may be the end, any thoughts on the "last coat"? As always we appreciate all the help we've received from all here on Scream and Fly, could'nt have done it w/o ya!!

Twas in a green and white 3M can. Says "for below waterline repairs" Is sands like rock! finally burned out my sander last night, gotta pick up another on the way home. I did the drawin's thanks! We found carpet in a shade of Teal and Plum, the plan beein to replicate the raised painted area on the bow, into the carpet. Got all fingers crossed.

Thats a REALLY GREAT lookin drawing wish i had that much talent
although i do draw a pretty mean stick man hehehe.

Colors look great together !!!

:( <~~ Baja Sad face , knowing mine may never look that good

The hand grab rails on the back are a must , these things are just about impossible to get into from the water.

Outstanding Job Scott !!

Man that thing going to be BAD..Good to hear from you, Tell Kathy I said Hi..!!
That paint going to be a killer..!! Man you gave me a great Idea for my Hull.. a Tunnel.. with Flat space where the 2 seats go.. I'm going to custom paint that part of the floor also..Tie it in with the rest of the boat.. Be alot better then the splatter paint I was going to use..
And will Look GOOD !! Be sure you take alot of pictures of you painting it.. Got to see em'...

Scott, you can always use gelcoat just like paint, with a roller or a brush. Your end result will be allot cleaner and watertight than just resin.

Your design is really nice!

I would love to see some more of your work!

Wish you guys were a bit closer and I could lend ya a hand.

Check with Lake Trash and/or Chuck Goodman, they have been designing some affordable billit swimsteps, very similar (not splashed though) to Eddie/Dana's steps.

We thought the carpet design was a tad different! Nothing says.."I spent to much time and money on needless things"..like designer carpet!! We just want something different. Had I not the 3 little ones, I would probably do w/o the carpet. Kathy says hi back to ya!
Take some pics of the floor!

If I painted part of my floor, then rolled Clear gelcoat over it..
Maybe sanded it, and put another coat.. It'll really last..??
I only have to do an area about 4x4'...
Then maybe gelcoat the rest of the floor..??
I'm doing some repairs to the floor, with End Grain Balsa.
Holes where bolts went thru the floor and leaked over the years.
After I cover the balsa with Glass, etc.. If I rolled gelcoat on the whole floor..Would that not seal super seal it..??
You think that would be better then just glass..??
It sounds good to me..

Thanks for your Info.. Larry :D

Your paint scheme is also bad to the bone!!

OK with the scheme but what about the engine? your painting that too aren't you? You have to to blend in with all the neit colors.
Don't listent to those others that say to keep it black or whatever.

Scott, you are doing it up right. First class. You will have Baja making a bid to get it back!

The drawing is awesome. But why carpet on the bow? Did I get that right? If you are thinking Kath needs a place to sun and not scratch the boat, I think techno can help you find a teflon sunscreen for her, um, otherside!

Transom looks great. Sure you don't want the job on the Sleek?

I REALLY like the side paint skeem - It will be one Bad A$$ Momma, (note the $$, b/c that's what it took!)

Paint away. Need a 40 gal compressor? Got one that needs a temporary home.

Yes you can use gelcoat just like paint, it is watertight.

Thin it to what ever consistantcy you want wiyth accetone, clear or tinted does not matter.

You can also add Duratec to your clear, it's a clear additive, mix 1:1, then there is no sanding involved. Some call it flow coat, but it will smooth out very nice.

The other item is wax or surafcing agent, I do not like the stuff, some do. In theory there should be less wiping down with accetone but I think wiping with accetone will give you a better finish, this is done after the gel dries.

Barn, Thanks for the tips on the final coat. I see "brushable" gel coat at the parts store, but have never looked into how to use it. I agree on being cloaser, In reality we could do w/o most of the states in between here n there!, Ok we'll hang on to Ohio, but The Dakota's and Wyoming just eat up space! Nobody on the board from there anyway (?)

Sleekster! I would love to give that compressor a temporary home if that offer is still good? The costom painter friend of mine has my guns, I been using his compressor, has a good regulator on it, holds 40 at the gun very well! Finished the transom Saturday, 16 straight hours! Looks straight! I'm happy. Kathy bought a kick ass 160W CD player w/ ins/outs for an amp! Gotta love it, need to build some support on the back side of the dash for it. Hope to glass in the bunks today. GETTIN SOOOOOO CLOSE!

Sharkey, sure wish I hadn't rushed the area under the splashwell Yours looked to clean!

Techno, I agree I would probably maintain the mfg. name, but lettering and stripe to match the rest of the rig. I have always though that the best of all worlds would be to have two cowels an original, and one painted to match the boat.

Find out if a V-6 cover will fit the belly pan of a V-4, if so, I have one for you. Course, it would be the opposite of a sleeper w/ a big cover on it! Might look neat - certainly a conversation starter!

I'll hang w/ you guys for the tunes for sure. Need to take out more floatation from the bow for the amp? For the sub? head unit? Extra batteries to drive the tunes? Enough room under there for a live band?

Coming along, How about some sparkling cider to smack on the bow when you launch her? That way the kids could partake!!!!

Don't worry about the transom area, it'll be covered w/ the fuel cell, bat., carpet, and any other thing that falls back there - barbie clothes, candy wrapers, GI Joe pieces, lego, 1/2 a pbj.....you know the drill, just look in the back of the truck/car!!!! Kids are great, its the accessories that will bruise a toe or two!!!

The other side of the cell, you could put a dry box or tool box for whatever....

You making boxes for the front seats to sit on? They are good for storage too. Under the back seat, however small will be a help too, nothing eloborate...ski/tube rope, extra life jacket, anchor & line, dock line, what else?...first aid kit? just kickin' ideas at you....
