Ok guys has anyone waterproofed a full boat cover??
How the hell did you do it the little spray cans cost a fortune and only cover a little area??? I thought about spraying it with Thompsons water seal for your deck but ummmmm even sounds foolish!!!!
Any Idea and has anyone done a full cover??
Thanx
Jeff

I did mine with some stuff the local boat canvas company sold me. Seems as though it was about a quart in a pump spritzer and I just misted down the whole cover (do not soak it) while it was on the boat. Lasted about 1.5 seasons. I need to do it again this year.

I have used cans of starch on covers before. Once a year I would soak my cover while I lived in Florida and never had a leak yet. The only thing with this is that you have to really soak the cover well to get the results.

I've done a few of my canvas covers with no problem. I just waited until evening when it was calm and sprayed upwind so it drifted onto the cover, just enough to see it on there but not totally wet. If I had a spot water collected I would wet it more, but the key is to have it all run off or it gets in anyway. If it beads and runs off it works great. So I make sure I have good bow system or whatever to hold the cover up everywhere. If its out for a while I use a regular tarp over that. It lasts two years if it does not get too much sun/rain, I parked this one under trees and it says longer in the shade, off season its inside.

I do mine evryother year with 303 Fabric spray.I wash the cover with Woolite at a commercial laundry[big machine]and then spray it with the 303.It's great stuff,as is its 303Protectant,much better than Armorall, etc.,contains no alcohol.I get it from Overton's but it's available many other places.Qt.spray treats about 100 sq.ft.

Most canvas shops have a tank of the waterproofing that they will soak the old cover in to "bring it back". Can't remember what it cost but, has to be less then a new cover.

it sounds kinda stupid but the rep from Sunbrella told me that when there fabric looses its water proofing to take a pump sprayer with Thompson watersealer and srray it down. I've done this process alot(to many to count)never had any redos or complaints.hope this helps.

My canvas maker told me to use Thompsons and it worked great. It does make the cover a little stiff, but it works. Just fill up your tank sprayer and spray it.
