I'm just a bonehead when it comes to outboard motors, but have alot of Info on 235's..I'll email you later today..
How hard do you think it would be to install a set of
Boyesen Power Reeds in a 235..?
And go alittle fatter on the jets ..??

What kind of compression numbers do you have now? A bump in compression can do wonders for power.

Got a set ready to go in :D

Should be a pretty simple job (but then again they all start out that way)

And thats among one of my Million Questons, are these slight mods worth the time and $$ invested in the long run

All I know is, By the time I'm done I wanna be able to out run at least one person on this board (dammit) :D

Sorry couldn't resist. You almost ready for Oneida?

...and if your setup isn't optimized, that would be where I went next. A whole lot can be accomplished with setup, and it's usually not as costly as most engine mods are.

Can't find the pic. Ok well if it's black I believe ya. There's a guy by me that has (had) a lot of 2.6 stuff. If some of those parts bolt on will help ya let me know. I'll call him and see what he's got.

Compression is good , but from what i understand , I could run it up to #155 and still run on pump gas, Just have to retard the timing by 4 deg..

Anyone up North way still able to cut and cc these heads for me ?

For some reason i just dont trust the 150 corn farmers that live around here to work on my parts :D

145 is marginal with pump gas, at least it has been for me. And what happens if you get a bad batch? Is your a bigbore?

I thought 155 seemed high !!

Big bore 3.625

And should be able to run stock timing.

Be careful with "stock" timing recomendation and increased compression. The sticker on my '83 235 says 30 degrees BTDC. Marginal with the bathtub heads it came with and no way I'd run that much timing with tight heads. Unless you don't mind changing pistons a couple of times each year.

I didn't think to mention that.

Baja do ya know the year on that mota ? I have some mods
that have proven to work very well on that motor.....

Bring it down to the boatyard when ya come downthis way and
we'll give it an attitude adjustment ;)

So you guys think the timing may need backed of a little then ??

Woodco Both of them 79's (almost as old as me) :D

Next Question, Do they respond well to opening up the reed blocks ? and the exhaust side in the same whay the Mercs do ?

If your engines are '79s then they are (or were) 3 1/2" bore or 149cid. The 2.6 motors started in '80 and are 3 5/8" bore for 160cid. Not a big deal except you need to use the correct heads, gaskets etc. to match the bore. As far as timing goes, the advice I was always given was 28 degrees maximum and 26 was a safer place to start. Very little if anything to gain with more advance and much more likely to blow.

Thats a good thing that they are the older style blocks..... thicker
walls in the block much more dependable.

Baja let me know when ya want to get together ....... I

heard this mornin that the Steelies are hittin ;)

I'll probably stay below Oswego then...They didn't have that
much snow so the creeks are in better shape.

Hopefully I'll be at the yard all next week or workin on the docks
before the lake starts to rise.

I'll let ya know.
