Heard a report gas companies switch to adding ethanol in the summer to there gas instead of some other cemical. This is why there is some shortages right now on the east coast. Will this hurt an outboard engine?????
Mike is selling his Skater and his 260's because of it, but I haven't heard anyone talk about WHY it's bad, so I'm wondering the same thing...

the motor is not the problem. some boats have fiberglass fuel tanks and the ethenol breaks down the resin making a mess over time. Also it seems to suck the moisture right out of the air and blends the water and fuel very good. not good for a 2 stroke. it turns clear fuel into piss water over time. the ethenol gas can not sit around very long. do search on ethenol there is gobs of info out there

i always heard don't run ethanol (90/10) in an ob, whether it was actually the motor or the lines/tank. Use straight gas. You can thank Iowa (#1 in ethanol production) for this. I guess MTBE, which was mandated by our government, contaminated too many wells. Ethanol unleaded around here is about 5-10 cents cheaper than unleaded. E85 around 30-40 cents cheaper.

Spoke with Peter at Skater today and he told me that only a certain number of Skaters were affected by the Ethanol.

Which ones?
Why? Skater can afford to have any fuel cell company build any size tank they need. Is this an older hull thing?
