They are on the list. This should make for an interesting race. Looks like BRP teamed up with the top OMC team from past races.

Team RMSM is always competitive at Rouen.

Good luck to RMSM and it drivers. Drive hard, be safe.:)

I think 1997 was the first year the Optimaxs raced at Rouen. I can't believe its been 9 years already.

Let's not forget this is the first run for these, I don't know how many boats run this class but I think the opti's owned it, did they win in thier first couple years????It's good to see competition in any form nowdays!.

1997 Merc took two box stock 20" mid 200HP optis to the race and finished 4th and 5th overall.

1999 They took a 200XS on a racing mid and gearcase and finished 3rd overall

2000 They had 2 200XS race motors and took 1st overall.:D

Of course the Opti's owned that class, I believe it was created for them since they were the only DI engine that wanted to compete. I may be wrong but I don't think anyone ever tried to run the old OMC FICHT at Rouen.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. It's nice to win your class but the most impressive results are where you end up in the overall category for the event. Decent looking overall results listed above.

Do yourself a favour & check out www.fred-info.net (http://www.fred-info.net) Go to the Rouen site & download the 5 videos of the 2006 race. Listen to the winning
E-Tec on number 3 vid compared to the others. Lower revs, killer sound & won by 23 laps too. Way to go. Enjoy!!!

I'm curious as to the rules for the race. I know that mercury motors are usually the 200xs but I see where the BRP teams used a 225HO.

1) They must fit in the displacement limits of the class

2) They must be a homologated, production complete engine with I believe a minimun of 25 built per year. No one-off trick race parts or modification of the homologated block,heads,etc..

I hope the E-TEC proves to be reliable. I am not brand loyal. I like their new motors but wasn't confident enough to consider one on my last purchase.

Around here and especially in bass boating, the BRP is a distant third.

I see you've been over on the BBC boards. That should answer that question.

If your looking for performance and fuel economy, they are usually third in independant tests.
