Steering advice please

I have a 19' 380 Laser with a 2.5 200 Merc. My steering system has som play (slack) specially when you get on the pad. Right now I have a double rack cable system...the kind that plugs into the outboard from either side.

Should I attempt to correct the slack and is this even possible? Otherwise, what kid of steering system do you recommend I buy.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have to stay away from hydrauhlic because of limited budget for this boat.
Which system is tighter??

If you have dual cables you should be able to adjust all the slack out of the sytem unless the helm is completely shot. Even if you get a brand new dual cable system you are going to have to adjust it.

I just ordered a new dual cable no feedback teleflex system. The rack system that I have now is way too old...
